better diet?

I am planning to feed my 2 years old (100lbs) male Rottweiler on barf. Is 2.5lbs chicken (whole chicken without gibets) enough for every day diet? He is currently with Eagle Pack Natural.
Which one is better for my dog? Raw chicken or Eagle Pack dry food?

Feeding just chicken is not at all a balanced diet. I would think you would be doing more harm then good by feeding just chicken. Given the choice of raw chicken or a balanced diet, I think I would have to vote for the balanced diet.

Speaking from the kibble side of things, I don't think it's safe to just jump into it like that. Continue with your kibble, and look through the forum here for partial raw diet ideas. I've found several prepared raw diets, and I am gradually cutting back on kibble and adding more raw. Along the way, I'm learning about what supplements to consider, and balance of meats, veggies, and grains. This way my dogs' health doesn't suffer while I'm fidgeting around trying to figure out what's right.

Good luck!!

Yes, you need to do your research! There are some people who feed nothing but meat & bones, but they have their reasons for doing so. Don't just start handing your dog a chicken per day and expecting wonders.

BTW, were you to do that, you would want to give him the giblets also. :)

Buy Dr. Billinghurst's book on feeding raw diet. It's not as simple as "toss them a chicken" and as Ian says, feeding raw incorrectly is WORSE than feeding poor kibble.

Another very good book is "Holistic Guide for a Healthy Dog" by Volhard and Brown, D.V.M. I highly recommend reading it too.

I keep it around all the time and refer back to it, it's great.

Did you ever try the frozen veggie cubes?

I actually did this past week & Julius LOVED them. So it looks like I'll be preparing more. I got the "Holistic Guide for a Healthy Dog" out of the library but I think on payday I'll be visiting Barnes & Noble to purchase it. You're right....it's such a great reference book!

:)
