Shedding Undercoat Q

Ok, my girl is definitely shedding her undercoat!

I vacuum sometimes twice daily and it doesn't help all that much!

I know she's blowing her undercoat, and how long should I expect it to take?

More than likely 3-5 weeks.

Thanks. I know they never stop shedding, but there's tons more hair everywhere than normal, so I figure she's just blowing her undercoat.

I've been using the shedding blade on her a lot lately, and that has helped a little. :p

I'm wondering if the shedding is worse where the winters are cold. The rotties probably build up a good undercoat in the winter and then shed, shed, SHED it off in the early summer. My sister in law has two rotties and doesn't have harsh winters and a lot of hair around. :p

It's funny, you vacuum the floors and 5 minutes later there is another coating of fur there!

The winters are mild here in Southern California and I've have been finding Black Dust Bunny Conventions in every corner! :D Personally, I'm thrilled with it because a healthy undercoat is something that Luna has just recently regained, and I will never complain about dog hair again! :D

Seems to me that when I see pictures of rotties from up north they tend to have a real thick curly coat, more so then what I'm used to seeing on our local dogs. We had a relatively cool winter this past season (by our standards) and my wifes cats really put on coat. Much more so then years past. Around 9 years ago we saw the same thing happen and that winter set record lows for temps also. So I guess what I'm saying is that the more coat you have the more you'll find around. I like to think of them as "Dust Puppies."

I keep asking Xena "where are the puppies?" She has to be hiding puppies in here somewhere. That would explain all the fur! :p :D ;)

As soon as I'm done here, I'm going to give her ANOTHER brushing! :D

Is she due to come into heat soon? Pooh blows almost ALL her coat off about a month before she comes into season....

Hubby just asked me this morning, why are you sweeping???? I said because it needs to be done, he says you just did it night before last. I showed him dust pan(we have all ceramic tile except bedrooms), and he said where did all that come from..........

Gotta love those dogs.........:o
