| can glucosamine create stronger urine I am curious can daily glucosamine supplements increase the pH of urine? The reason I ask is that Balder eats a normal healthy diet of canidae, with most treats being lettuce, carrots, etc. His urine badly burns everything even without frequent stops to the same spot. |

| have no idea about glucosamine, but heartworm meds can cause grass to be burned by urine...not sure it is a PH thing. |

| I have fed glucosomine to one of my girls for 6 years and never noticed stronger urine.

| I supplement with Glucosamine and haven't noticed any burned grass. Most of the property is wooded but there is a grassy spot that gets watered every morning and it isn't burnt at all. Does he drink a lot of water? If he doesn't that may be why his urine is concentrated. |

| I will have to pay more attention to how much he drinks. I know he holds it sometimes so that he can mark everything in sight later and not run out. Maybe that is why. An example is he marked my mother in-law's rose bush and it now has burns on it from just the one time. The vet didn't find any real reason for it, so ... He has killed lots of bushes and trees in our yaard from repeatedly marking the same spots. He does get adequate opportunities to go out and urinate so it is not as though he is forced to hold it too long. He also has kept up with the schedule I put him on as a puppy. After eating and drinking, he always goes out and does his business. He also always goes out after a nap or a good romp. |

| So he's not on heartworm prevention or any other meds other than glucosamine? |

| yes, he is on heartworm preventative, and he eats canidae. Treats usually consist of small pieces of dog biscuits, occasionally dried liver, carrots occassionally, and lettuce stalks. He also does get marrow bones ever month or two. I have thought about changing foods to one with fewer protein sources, but both dogs are doing great on the Canidae. |

The grass, roses etc. burn is almost certainly the heartworm preventative. It is highly toxic stuff. But you have to weigh risk in your area of that compared to dangers of contracting heartworm. Martin Goldstein DVM book on natural animal health goes into this some if you are interested in further reading and knowledge. KATE |
