getting rid of dog smell

Now that Kiara is inside at nights, whenever I go into where she sleeps I nearly dry reach due to the doggy smell. Now, I can get rid of the smell from the room cause I vacuum and mop it every day due to my allergies. But is there something you can do to the dog to get rid of the smell? After I was her it's fine, but I can't be washing her all the time. I've tried the baking soda trick, but that doesn't really work and is a pain in the butt to comb her everyday.

Is there like a doggy deoderant or something I can do to reduce the smell? I've heard some foods make em stink real bad.
I'd prefer a home remedy or natural additive than an off the shelf product

A healthy and clean Rottweiler should not be smelly. It might be caused by what you are feeding her or something else, but ...... perhaps you'd better look at where the smell is coming from. Does she lie in something stinky when she is outside, are her ears clean, are her teeth clean?

Make sure she doesn't have an ear infection or something, that can make a dog smell bad. Check between her toes & over her body to make sure she doesn't have a little sore that's infected, under her fur. I had a cat with an absessed bite once...you could hardly see it under his fur. But he literally stunk up the house, that's how I figured out he had something that needed vet attention. It reeked, poor kitty. Something like that would give off a rotten meat sort of smell. Check her mouth for tooth infections too.

If it's just a strong doggie odor, could be food...try cutting out the pasta & grains, keeping her on a single meat source (I'm assuming you're still feeding the raw/home prepared diet) - doing an elimination diet should help find out.

But if it really gives you the dry heaves, I'd look for something medical, or like Judy says she may be playing or rolling in something yucky outside.

If its just normal doggy smell from a wet dog or slightly dirty dog, I would make a homemade carpet deoderizer, you can also put some in a dish and it will help absorb odors. I make my own 'carpet fresh' because after having 2 dogs pass away from cancer, I am a bit leery in what i put in my enviroment.
I take a big empty coffee can and mix in 2 lbs of baking soda, 1 lb of borax and a few drops of whatever esstenial oil you like. Works VERY well and costs MUCH less then carpet fresh and less toxic too!

Some people are just more "aware" of odors. I for one, can't stand normal doggy smell. I do a few things. I have a number of air filters throughout the house. I use Febreeze religiously, especially on her bed area. I burn candles or incense a lot. And I use Stick-ups and other air fresheners.

Chuss make sure you check the ears in case it's an ear infection that will make a dog smelly bad. My 3 yr. old make has allergy problems along with ear infection, thank god it has all cleared up due too a new diet, and meds. but, if you want a good thing to use on her Petco sell a moisturizer called Veterinarian's Best, they have a shampoo, and this moisturizer..it smells really good and it doesn't have any side effects to using it all the time. I use it on my 2 every time i brush them. it helps in keeping moisture in their coat. it works really good and smells good. Good Luck!

They have a Baby Powder Grooming Spray here in the states at PETCO that works pretty well. You just spray it on their coat and brush them and it smells like baby powder. I don't know if you can get it were you live.

thanks for the tips guys!

It's just the normal doggy smell, I have a very sensitive nose so it makes it worse. I'll head off to a specialist pet store and look for some doggy deoderants.
