Homemade treat

Just wanted to share a great recipe I found. 1lb. chicken livers ( can use whatever kind of liver you want),1egg, 2 cloves of garlic, place all in a blender and blend to form a slurry. Mix dry ingredients separetly, 1 cup flour, 1/3 cup quick oats, 1/4 cup cornmeal, pinch of salt and 2 or more tblsp dry milk powder. Mix all together and then add slurry mixture. Grate whatever you would like to add such as parsely, carrots, grean beans, sweet peas, apple, cheese etc. Pour into bar cookie pan that has been sprayed with Pam and bake 20 to 25 minutes at 350 degrees. Luther loves this and it freezes very well.

The bar is soft but will hold together well. I've doubled only the liver and egg which makes them even softer and they crumble up nicely to mix with kibble. The original recipe has the consistancy of bar cookie- maybe a little drier. Connie

Thanks....I will try the original recipe. I want to use them as treats. If they turn out and my dogs love them< I will bake some for the pet rescue society I belong to. We are having a rummage/ garage sale to raise funds and doggie treat squares should sell quickly.:D

Those sound good! I'm going to give this to my friend who bakes treats for her dogs, she'll make me some too. :)

Here's a great collection of dog treat recipes, Kathleen, if you like to cook for your dogs:

I just can't get over the liver in the blender part. That sounds so gross. And then you have to clean the blender/food processor. Am I just being a ninny?

The blendered livers is kind of gross, I have found chicken livers are easier to work with than beef. I was told to make a large amount each time and freeze extra due to the mess and smell. I didd'nt think the smell was bad though. Just smelled like garlic to me. Anther thing is to bake until no pink is seen. Luther really loves them.

Nope, I'm the SAME way. BUT after seeing how Julius responded last night in obedience to the trainers liver treats I think I'll be making some to take to agility with me. He absolutly LOVED them. I'll just make Ryan clean out the nasty blender.....;)

Carina thanks for the great recipe link. I'm sure I'll be trying out some new recipes now. Think peanut butter treats are next.
