| Frontline or Advantage I'm sure there is a big debate on this but I thought I would get some input on it. We currently used to use Advantage during the flea months on our dog and cats....now that we have a 100 lb Rottie this season I am not sure whether to switch to Frontline since its dosing shows more convenient for large dogs...we always had good luck with Advantage, but I am considering Frontline this year and wonder what everyone's input is on this and which is more effective :) Is the one tube of Advantage 55+ enough for a Rottie or do you also need to use 1 tube of 23-55 lb in order for it to be the proper dosage? Thanks, Laurel

| We've used Frontline for years and it's done its job wonderfully. Our vet recently switched us to Advantix, which allegedly offers additional protection against mosquitoes. Because our house sits in an area where bloodsuckers fly nightly sortees, and because cases of West Nile have been confirmed within 50 miles, I like the idea of the added protection. My wife applied one application. The jury's still out if this amount is sufficient. She did comment that she hoped it was enough. There was an earlier thread on Advantix http://www.rottweiler.net/forums/sho...light=advantix Some posters had concerns about its ingredients. Personally, I see it as an acceptable risk. It can't be worse than some of the preservative-laden, synthetic junk they call "treats" in the pet store. ;) Last edited by cyberrottie; 05-15-2003 at 12:53 PM. |

| I was using Frontline Plus on Sajan. I picked it over Advantage mainly because only Frontline claims to stay on while swimming. Frontline Plus also kills fleas in all stages and 4 varieties of ticks and Advantage does not. I am currently trying a non-chemical approach to fight fleas and ticks. The jury is still out.

| Hello, everyone: My Louie is to young have the fle&tick collar on him. So, is there any way I can keep those ticks off him. I took him to the vet cause we found about 12 ticks on him. Now, I am afraid that it might be all over the house. What can I use to prevent it from living in our house? Will Louie be safe around it? Thanks, Jodyce |

| "It" meaning the ticks? Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think ticks can live very long without a host, but I'm not sure.

| The vet inform me that ticks can live in a house. It sucks on the dog until it is full then it release itself wherever they are at. It then give birth to baby ticks that can live in your home. That was what my vet told me. I thought it was disgusting. Ticks can also leach itself on us. I did not know that. But now, I am a little freak about about it. I let my husband take out the ticks but I know Louie got more. The vet some kind of medication on him but I think it is working, so we are going to see him again this weekend. But the thought of ticks living in my home scare me. I want to get rid of them! Any suggestions? jodyce |
