Back to Basics...

I know, I know, another question about kibble...:p I was wondering, has anyone had experience with Back to Basics? Right now Ares is on Innova, but has recently lost his appitite for it. I've tried Canidae in the past, but he didn't do well on that. I've done a search on Back to Basics, nothing was really said about it. Thank you for your help.

Here is the web site: http://www.beowulfs.com.

A former trainer of mine was a distributer and swore by it.

I believe the founder and company owner is a Mastiff breeder.

Yes, the founder was a Mastiff breeder. The food has been sold to one of the major companies (I'm forgetting which one right now)

Sold?

...we used to use Back to Basics for several years. Our lab had mast cell cancer tumors. This food had the right protein to fat content (necessary for cancer dogs) of all of the foods available in our area. There used to be several testimonials and an article on the website re: the benefits of this combination for cancer dogs. I liked the food and was extremely pleased with the results. The one downside was that it had to be shipped to our home. After the death of our lab from old age, not cancer, we switched our rescues to Canidae and California Natural as a premium pet food store opened near our home.

Hmmmm....that just suprises me as I really thought it was a company commited to a premium food. We even considered switching back some day....hmmmmm

I don't know how long ago it was sold, but it used to be in plain white bags, and you could only get it through a distributor. Now it's sold in stores, in colorful bags. I know it was sold, can't remember the company who is now behind it. I'd guess this was several years ago.

Thank you for all your replys. I'll also need to have it shipped to me, but that's cheaper than buying premium foods from the stores here. I think I'll go ahead and order a small bag and see how well Ares does on it. Again, thank you for your replys and the link.:)

mmgy, I'm in Charleston. I went to Atlanta to adopt my second APBT, found a place that carried Back to Basics and none of my "babies" would touch it. Luckily, I was able to donate the open bag to a rescue shelter. The local pet store here just started carrying Pinnacle, is this a good kibble? The ingredients look good and I believe it's on the WDJs top ten kibble list. Again, thank you all for your replys.

Well, I'd like to PM you, but you haven't been a member long enough!

Have you tried Doolittle's for other foods? I think they're in Summerville and/or Mt. Pleasant.

Alpha Dog Omega Cat down off King Street carries Canidae, and can order Nature's Variety. Or, you can go to www.naturesvariety.com and contact the NC/SC distributor for more info. Do this, they have good mail-order pricing.

Pinnacle is highly touted, but we tried a bag recently and were not impressed. Too much grain for my tastes, and the dogs didn't really care for it.

I actually used to get my Innova from Doolittles. I think the only other food they had there was Wellness, which my boy didn't care for. I also used to get my Canidae from Alpha Dog Omega Cat, but I think Ares was allergic to something in it as he scratched all the time and was getting little scabs here and there.
Thank you for the link to Natures Variety website, I will talk to the people at Alpha Dog Omega Cat and see if they can get a bag in for me.
mmgy, have you ever lived in Chas? I used to live in Summerville before moving to N.Chas, they have a store there that carries Innova, Pinnacle, and Blackwood. Thanks again for the link.

This is getting very weird. Are you Mike? Since we can't post email addresses, does yours have the word "drow" in it? If it does, you're in my address book, and I sort of know who you are!!!

Yeah, this is weird, my name is Mike and I had an e-mail address with drow in it. I used to have a portrait site for IWDII and that was the e-mail address I used for anyone that had a request. Now that I think of it, mmgy sounds very familiar too, are you a member of the Interplay forum? I remember someone on there telling me that they also had a Rottweiler. This is actually cool.:D mmgy, it seems you know a lot about kibble, let me ask you about Timberwolf Organics. This guy actually sells this kibble from his house in Summerville, I visited the site and it seems like an awesome food. If you want, you can drop an e-mail to the old drow address. I can ask you question that way instead of keeping this thread going.
