Am I feeding enough?

Blaise is now 9 months and 90 lbs and I am wondering if his 6 cups of food a day that we used to feed him is too much or not enough. It seems that is weight gain is finally slowing down and I don't want to keep feeding him the same amount if his body doesn't require that much now. We are currently feeding Nutro Natural if that helps any information wise.

TIA,
Laurel

It's virtually impossible to tell since dogs are really variable in how much they need to maintain a weight. Daphne (70lbs) eats much more than Cooper (about 100lbs) - any more and he'll get too chunky, any less for her and she'll get even skinnier!

I'd suggest weighing him now, when he's a nice lean weight, and adjust food accordingly. I guess as a general rule, you can do harm by overfeeding a little, but not by underfeeding a little.

We also feed Nutro Natural and Brodie gets 5 cups of food a day split into two feedings. He is currently around 28" tall and 110lbs and seems to be doing very well on that amount. He also gets some wet food in the evenings mixed with his dry.

Laurel, at 9 months old, Blaise is still growing so as long as he isn't heavy then I would say he should be alright. I hope you're not feeding him all six cups at one meal. That is a lot of dry food to put into his stomach to digest at one time. I worry about bloat, that's why I feed twice a day.

When he was younger he was fed 3 times a day and now he gets fed twice a day 3 cups each. Even thought he acts like he could eat 24/7. lol
