After a bad Canidae experience, located good new food

Last week, I posted about a bad bag of Canidae that I just bought. Good news is that I contacted Canidae and will be sending in a sample for testing. So-so news is that I have yet to be offered any refund on my purchase. Good news is that in the interim, I came across a farily new food that you may want to take a look at. I will probably be going back to Canidae, it is a great food hands down. I may be more motivated if I can at least get a refund of my purchase price or a new bag for free. Anyway, check out the Eagle Pack Holistic Select Food. It looks like a really high grade superpremium with quality ingredients. My only concern is that, like Canidae, the protein content is a little low (24%) to support a working dog. but I supplement anyway, so that is not really a concern.

For those that care, the stool volume is significantly lower than that produced by Canidae.

Where did you buy the Canidae from? I don't know a pet food store that wouldn't give you your money back or a new bag if you brought the bad food in to them.

Tri star,,that has been my experience also. In fact, most places will let you bring the bag back for a refund if your dog simply doesn't like it. I wasn't aware that Canidae was low in protien? I feed mine Canidae and she does really well on it. Is there a need to supplement with extra protien?

eagle pack and healthwise both make as working dog formula that has like a 21% fat content.. it has been the idea of late that dogs process fat so differantly than humans that the fat may actually benefit cancers and other ailments, and for a working dog i believe that the fat content is way more important than the protien...(of course you wouldfnt want to feed a improperly excersized dog 21% fat food) i to have switched away from canidae i know of several people that are having problems as of late with there dogs stamina--- allergies ect......

Also had bad Canidae experience

I have been feeding dry Canidae for over a year and my girl had done very well with it UNTIL I bought a new bag last week and her energy level went down to nothing and the stools were less than good if you get my drift. I contacted the store I bought it from and they said that once in a while they do get adverse reactions to bags of Canidae possibly because the sunflower oil that is used goes rancid (according to their supplier). The date on the bag was just from last month and I didn't smell anything odd about it either.

Well, that left a bad taste in my mouth and I switched to Natural Balance (yes, the Eight is Enough's guys food!) and after 6 days am very pleased with the results. Her stools are formed much better than when she was on Canidae and talk about less of them, it's amazing.

Not every food is for every dog and I'm glad Canidae is working for yours.
