Calling all Raw Feeders

Hi Everyone, we have been feeding raw for about a year now I guess. My female who is 18 months needs some weight put on her. She is very active, but I need to get a little more weight on her. I have had everyone tell me at the shows that she needs some weight. She will be shown in Am Bred at the Nationals. I am giving her 1.5 lbs chicken wings in morning and 1 lb patty of ground beef and veggies in evening. She also gets tuna, mackeral, sardines occasionally. Any suggestions for something that might put a little extra weight on her??? Thanks!

I would just increase the amounts you give her a bit until she reaches the ideal weight. Maybe move to 2 lbs of wings and 1.5 lb of beef. There is no quick ffix really to do it properly.

Hi Shannon - Mike makes a good point, but I'd also consider adding more muscle meats to the meat meal. Ground lamb, lamb stew, lamb riblets (also a good rmb), and ground pork are fatty.
Use the cheaper ground beef, if you're currently using ground chuck. I'd also add eggs and whole milk yogurt. Keep on eye her though, because remember we're feeding whole foods, with little
'waste', so you don't want her to get blimpy! Best wishes!

If you are not a total raw purist, you might also add some soaked rolled oats (more protein & vit E than many grains) - a friend with a very skinny Dane swears by it. She makes some concoction out of peanut butter, eggs, raw ground beef & oats.

She also feeds more things like pork hocks and lamb. I read someplace that during tough races like the Iditarod, the dogs get as much as 70% fat for the duration of the race, so if your girl is active, it probaably wouldn't hurt to increase fat, as long as she tolerates it. Wings are not really high in fat, how about chicken backs?

I sometimes add some oats to Daphne's food, especially if it's sort of cold but she's going to be out all day. She's a real skinny minnie, and higher carb breakfasts digest a bit slower than all meat/RMBs.

There's also "satin balls" - don't have a recipe but searching on that term should get you there.
