Chicken soup for the dogs soul???

Hi i was wondering if anyone has heard of this food? Our local pet store has started carrying it in the past week. I didn't look to close to the ingredients after i seen the price $39.00 for a 30lb bag!! They have 2 different kinds an all stages and a senior dog. They also have it for cats. (Chicken soup for the cats soul) I tried the Canadia(sp?) but i did not like how fast i was going through it. I have 6 dogs and in a month and a half i went through 3 bags which was the same amount as i fed of the previous food. So they are back on the old stuff.(Pro Pac) anyway. just curious if anyone has heard of or used this kind before. Anything good about it? Bad stuff? Just want some input if you have any. Thanks

This is a fairly new food.

Here's the ingredients list followed by the analysis.

Chicken, turkey, chicken meal, turkey meal, whole grain brown rice, whole grain white rice, oatmeal, potatoes, cracked pearled barley, millet, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols), duck, salmon, egg product, flaxseed, natural chicken flavor, kelp, potassium chloride, salt, choline chloride, chicory root extract, carrots, peas, apples, dried skim milk, cranberry powder, rosemary extract, parsley flake. Vitamins and minerals

And here's the analysis:

Guaranteed Analysis

Crude Protein 24%
Crude Fat 14%
Crude Fiber 3%
Moisture 10%

Seems like a pretty good food going by the ingredients.

Rommel's Mom

Well i am in central Ia and its a locally owned store. Dyvig's Pet Store. There are only 2 in the state. One in Storm Lake and the other is in Webster City. They just got in in on Wednesday i believe. They told me it was good but the price kinda scared me!! LOL This is a smallish town (10,000 ppl tops) i am surprised you haven't seen it yet. I think i will give it some time on the market and see how it does before i go try it.

I saw this at Pets Supplies plus here last week, I thought that was a funny name for dog food! It doesn't look too bad though, to be honest.

There was a thread about this a while ago. It's made by Diamond, I'm not sure if that's good or not. I don't know how to post a thread, but go to search and look up "Diamond" it should come up. It was started by mmgy and was called "new pet food line"

Chicken Soup was just made available to stores about Feb. 15, so I doubt anyone has formulated much of an opinion on it. Personally, it looks better than lots of foods out there, but its formula is tilted way too far in favor of grains and starches.

In the end it's all about Diamond trying to get a piece of the market that currently belongs to smaller companies that make dog foods with integrity and research. I prefer to stick with companies that are in the business solely of making super premium dog foods, not companies that have a food for every rhyme or reason.

Yes, I am a dog food snob.

Me too! How 'bout that. :)

Sparklemom - when you find a thread you've searched for, you can copy & paste the link (from the address bar) into the message & it'll come up.
