my vet told me the plus prevents the development of eggs whereas the other stuff only kills the eggs.

Ok, I'm not questioning you, and I dont want to sound like and idiot, but isn't killing the eggs preventing them from developing? I dont get it.

now that you mention it, it does sound like it's one in the same. it made sense when the vet tech told me but now it doesn't. now i'll need to investigate.:)

here's what their website says...

FRONTLINE Plus is the longest-lasting, most complete spot-on flea and tick protection available - and it's only available through your veterinarian. Our research indicates that FRONTLINE Plus not only kills 98-100% of adult fleas on your dog within 24 hours, it also contains a special ingredient that kills flea eggs and larvae, too, and keeps ALL stages of fleas from developing. FRONTLINE Plus completely breaks the flea life cycle by effectively stopping the development of new fleas. And, FRONTLINE Plus kills all stages of 4 major ticks including the ones that may transmit Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever.

FRONTLINE Top Spot is an easy-to-apply liquid that provides your pet with guaranteed protection against fleas and ticks. FRONTLINE Top Spot comes in 4 sizes for dogs 10 weeks of age and older (up to 22 lbs., 23 to 44 lbs., 45 to 88 lbs., and 89-132 lbs.) and 1 size for cats 12 weeks of age and older. It's convenient, highly effective and only needs to be applied once a month to give your pet superior flea and tick protection.

i guess how i interpreted what the vet tech told me is that somehow one would keep the fleas from laying eggs in the first place where the other would kill existing eggs. go ahead, you can just call me cluess. :)

Nah, wouldn't call you clueless. But maybe I would call me clueless. Because this is how I understand it: it kills fleas and flea eggs, but the other just kills fleas. Now in my mind, typically if there are no fleas there cant be any eggs right. So are they just sticking you for extra $$ by making it sound better? Or am I just looney?

Ok, I just wanted to see if I was a bad mom for wanting to save a few dollars by getting the cheaper stuff. But if you see it the same way I do, I guess I'm not. :D
