| puppies and canidea, weaning question and growth Hello all I am wondering if any of you have weaned a litter of pups using only Canidea. If so do you feel it has it been sufficient for growth and size as well as coat. Or should I go with a good puppy food, if so which one. Thanks in Advance Cheri |

| Haven't done this myself, but have seen it a good bit, in breeds that include german shepherds (several times), dobermans, corgis, great danes, goldens, cockers, labs, and kerry blues. Puppies grow at a nice even pace, steady and solid, with pretty coats, but not fat and squishy . For most of these people, the only thing they've done different is add some canned Canidae during the transition.Good luck!!!:) M2 |

| hey cheri I did indeed wean Attila onto Canidae. His first week, I mixed it with a homemade formula of Hot water, mixed with an egg yolk (no whites), canned goat milk and yogurt. Made it into a baby food consistancy with the canidae.... by the second week, I just softened it a bit in goat milk/water... and by the third week... crunch crunch crunch He's done extremely well on it.. I do add yogurt or cottage cheese to his meals, and I also supplement with Kelp and a C supplement. He got a little skinny at around 11-12 weeks, and, (doh, knocking self in head), I realized I needed to feed him more...lol Good luck. Elisabeth |

| I have just been weaning the tinyist rottie pup - and am using canidae wet food - her growth will be fine. Slowing the growth down is always a good idea. The problem with puppy "designed' foods is they put too much protein in and the pups grow too fast resulting in painful limbs - resulting in limping and possible damage to tissue as they develop. Its advisable to keep growth slow - they will grow to their potential when they reach maturity - but slowly. I fed my rottie pup all the way on raw and she is slowly growing into her full potential. I have seen pups at her age who are fat and flabby, my jade is lean and lithe - I always say she looks like a race horse :)
