5 month old and weight...

We have now had Blaise for a little over a month...he was underweight and not taken care of. On Dec 2nd @ 4mths he was 33 pounds and we took him for on the 30th and he is now 47.5 @ 5 months. He has gained 15 1/2 pounds in less than a month and I just want to be sure that he isn't gaining too fast ect... He is now on Nutro and I know you usually feed less of it than you do a "junk" dog food and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. We currently feed him 5 cups a day split into 3 feedings. I want to give this little guy the best possible life he can have since his little life started out so bad. We start obediance classes on the 14th and I can't wait !! Anytime anyone comes to the door he is right there with his stump wagging and eager to make new friends. His disposition is excellent and other than letting some things go in one ear and out the other he is sooo good :) Thanks for any advice or replies !

His weight sounds good to me. As long as you can't see his ribs but they can easily felt on physical exam and if he has a "waist" so to speak, then he should be fine with his weight. Although 5 cups a day sounds like a little much to me, but the Nutro Puppy food may be different than the Nutro Adult(which we feed). If you are following the recomendations on the bag then stay with it. We currently feed Brodie, who is 13months and about 95lbs, 5 cups 2x a day. That is the recomended amount for him on the bag.
