There's still hope! Well if I can do it anyone can do it:D. We have successfully done Czars nails WITHOUT and I repeat, WITHOUT a muzzle!! We are absolutely thrilled, you have no idea how we battled and struggled and dreaded doing nails . We went from 4 people to 3, then my husband and I all these times having to use a muzzle bc he would grab you and it wasen't a nice friendly grab either, which is why we had to go with the muzzle in ther first place. But the last couple of times we did nails he was exceptionally good, we'd put him in a down and he'd roll over on his own, no fighting, no holding him down, and no attempt to bite, so this time, today we wanted to do nails bc we do them EVERY 2 weeks now, with the expert advice of Judi W. So I said to my husband lets do them w/o a muzzle, he of course said "are you sure"? Low and behold we did them, NO muzzle, no grumbling, just a very well behaved good little boy:D, who afterwards got a very special treat, Oh and we cleaned ears w/o a muzzle too, something else we couldn't do before. I truly feel in my heart what I felt in the beginning that he acted like that out of fear, now that we have been doing it faithfully every 2 weeks he's become accustomed to it and has excepted it bc one way or another it was going to get done by US no one else, bc if we can't control our dogs how can we expect someone else to and he is well behaved at the vets and all this is part of doing what needs to be done and working with them till you get it right. So anyone out their who dreads nails or doing anything with your dog that may be unpleasant, don't give up, stay confident and let your dog know that you will do what needs to be done one way or another :D. I know this may sound like a big deal to some but when you already have a tough boy it sure makes us feel good to come to this point. One more thing, Judi W. is responsible for this bc she's the one who stresses doing them often, so Judi, I hope you read this and I hope you know how very much I appreciate you :D. O.K. I'm done, LOL!! Judy

...and thanks to you, Judy Chrusch, I can now do my dogs nails by myself! For the first time today!!! She just lays down and I don't even have to distract her with a treat while my husband dremmels her nails! Thanks for the suggestion! Birdie used to put up such a fight when we did her nails and now she is good as gold!!!

Alllllright Birdie!! That's wonderful news, I'm so happy Birdie is being such a good girl:D. Now remember, do them every 2 weeks or weekly, whatever you decide, just don't let it go past the 2 weeks. Birdie is still a pup and just bc she's tolerating it well now doesn't mean 2 months from now she'll still be good, so keep them up and by the time she's a year you'll have it made. You're doing a great job, keep up the good work and thanks for responding to my post. Though no one other than you has responded, I hope with reading this that it will help just one person, hey, maybe that was you, LOL :D :D. Take care and give your sweet girl a kiss from me. Judy

I try and do the Daggers every week. Usually Saturdays, with the rest of my chores. Then sometimes I get lazy or forget, just when I'm making headway and I have to start all over. Especially in the winter because I like to do them outside. I used to have to muzzle one also, and I had one that was convinced I was cutting them things off at the elbow. The crew is good about it now.....

You guys are really making me laugh. I know I am such a bugger about this but I quite honestly believe that if nails are done without apology on a regular basis from the time people get a dog, many other behavior problems will not occur. Sounds unrelated, but they hate it so, that if they have to cooperate with nails, they learn to cooperate with other things much more quickly. To all of you determined owners - congratulations!

Judi W. how right you are! Why didn't I listen sooner:o. Ya know, had I done this months and months ago, actually from day one, perhaps Czar would not have been such a hardhead about other things , bc I swear even now at 2, other behaviors have gotten better, that can't be a coincidence. Judi you must be tickled pink to have some of us take your advice and be proud that our rottie friend here suggested it. I know it feels like you're beating a dead horse sometimes Judi but I'll betcha their were MANY who have taken your advice, they just haven't come back here to tell you you were right, LOL. Hey, I admit when I'm wrong and when someone gives me advice I darn sure will try it, so again Judi W. thankyou once again for your fantastic knowledge, between you and Workindogz, we're all quite lucky:D. If anyone thinks this is all BS, try the advice given, you might be surprised ;). Thanks again Judi, you're a doll!!Lisa, show me how Bucky can almost do his own nails when we come, perhaps he can teach Czar, then we won't have to do them every other week:D, LOL! Judy

| Congrats Judy C on conquering the nail issue. I can vouch for the benefits of starting the nail trimming schedule at a young age and sticking to it. I have been dremmeling Sajan's nails at least once a week since I got him. He doesn't lay there and go to sleep like others I have heard of (YET) but he does lay still until I am done. I was determined to be able to do his nails without help:D Keep on them or they will back slide:p
