| Lost 4 lbs. in 5 days Tilers visit to the vet showed that he has an upper respirstory infection:(. It also showed that he has lost 4 lbs. since Thursday. He hasn't been eating a whole lot, and I've figured that it was just an adjustment period (rescued him from the pound on Thursday). He will eat canned food, and when I stopped out to the pet store to pick up a case of Canidae for him the shop keeper suggested I start putting sugar, molasses, or honey in his water, the honey was preferred according to him. Has anyone ever heard of this and is it good for the dog? It doesn't sound like the healthy solution. Sorry for the stupid questions, but with this infection we can't go to the trainer until it's cleared up for a while. |

| Just sort of a home made glucose solution. Won't hurt for a while if he's feeling punk. Most shelter dogs come with kennel cough so that combined with the adjustment stuff will leave him a bit down. |

| Maybe try giving him a cooked egg every day and/or cottage cheese or yogurt. Something that is palatable to him and that might make him eat a bit more. If he is not eating, his stomach has shrunk and it is hard for him to eat large meals. Try several small meals each day. One other question, did your vet do a fecal to check for worms? Please keep us posted on his progress..... Sharon Marples

| Tiler thanks you for all the good wishes! He seems to be doing better, but it's hard to tell. I think the cough suppressent that the vet prescribed is also like an antistetic (sp):o . He is still a little sluggish but he is eating canned Canidae 3 X per day, 4 - 5 cans a day. BTW canned dog food also makes a good mask for pills, but it sure is messy;). As soon as he is over this infection we are going to learn to eat the dry variety.:p The canned just costs too much |
