nutrition

I just adopted a 4 month old rottie and would like to know what are some good dry and can foods to feed her. She is very energetic and I feed her Pedigree can puppy food, raw bone marrow bones, fresh vegetables and sometimes boiled boneless chicken breast w/rice (her favorite). Is this diet okay or should I be feeding her something else.

Do a search on dog foods on this forum. You will find a ton of info! Look for brands like Canidae, Innova, Wellness - in your search.
Good luck!:)

Canned food is for the most part is about the worst thing you can feed your dog.

I see that you have time to make meals for your new puppy. Also research BARF on the board (Bones and Raw Food).

Don't think you have to buy dry kibble, there's alot of people on this board that swear by BARF (I don't have enough hours in the day to even try BARF ... some nights all I eat are sliced tomatoes).

I'm a little nervous about BARF (salmonella, etc.).

I don't feed BARF but I believe it's the best diet for your dog. (I think I don't have time.)

Dogs have short digestive systems--their guts are about 6-1/2' long. This means food doesn't stay in their systems long, so the chances of them getting ill from food are less than for us (w/ our 15' guts).

Also, BARF uses human-grade meats. BARF people handle the meat they feed their dogs with the same care they handle the meat they eat.

If you have no hesitation nor concerns giving your puppy raw beef marrow bones, why the concern about possible bacteria in BARF???

Ditch the Pedigree--it's not very good food at all.
