Cosequin Can anyone tell me the pro's or con's about Cosequin My Rottweiler who had the ACL surgery the Vet suggested that I put my boy on it I wanted to know more about it from people who actually used it. Since most drugs that come out are usually hyped up by the vets so they can get their cut of the profits I wanted to know the real truths about the drug.

We have used cosequin for four years now in three different dogs with no problems. It has helped dramatically in keeping Saga (mild HD but bothers her) limber and happy. In our first male, it was a lifesaver, as he had severe HD and it made life liveable for him, along with some other meds. Our third Rottweiler has moderate HD in one hip and has been on it for over a year now. So far, knock on wood, we have only seen him limp once and has never complained once about pain. So for us, the proof is in the puddin' ;)

Hi Bigwright -I don't know of any side effects from long-term use. The Nutramax Labs have a website that answers concerns from consumers. (http://www.nutramaxlabs.com/veterina...2.cfm?topic=91 A friend of ours was using Cosequin for about 6 mos in his Rottie that had ACL surgeries, and his only complaint was the price. There are other comparable products out there, using human-grade ingredients, that are supposedly alot less. Check out this site if you're shopping around - http://www.b-naturals.com/joints.htm kathy

Cosequin is expensive however it is also the only product I am aware of that has had successful clinical trials in dogs (the species we are using it on!) It is for joint disease so if there is not underlying joint problems I am not sure why it would be described for ACL injuries or post repair.

| I think Cosequin is a great product but I find the cost prohibitive. You can use human grade glucosamine/chondroitin found in your pharmacy for the same results at a lot less cost. I buy it at the feed store in big containers for horses and then adjust the dose for my dogs. It is much less expensive that way.
