good fly repellent?

Can anyone recommend a good fly repellent that won't make the dogs sick if they happen to ingest it while gnawing on each other in play? I tried eucalyptus and lemon, but they sneeze like crazy and roll in the dirt to get it off, so it is kind of a pain!

"Great Natural Recipe

1 Cup Avon's Skin-So-Soft bath oil
1 Cup water
1/4 Cup organic apple cider vinegar
4 -5 drops Eucalyptus oil

Mix together in a spray bottle and spray the family silly!!! It smells nice, is non-toxic and the bugs hate it.

** Do NOT use on cats as essential Oils are toxic to them. "

i found this in the archives from Lorrie. Actually, you posted on that thread. look it up!

Here's one that I have made and used on the dogs. (Can't remember where I got it from) I found that it works better than the citrinella smelling stuff you can buy. You do have to keep reapplying it every couple of hours or so.

1 large lemon - lots of rind
8" sprig of fresh rosemary (or 1 tbl. dried)
4 cups HOT water

Slice lemon paper thin. Put lemon slices and rosemary in a large bowl. Pour 4 cups of HOT water into bowl with lemon and rosemary and allow to steep overnight. Strain and put in a spray bottle.
