Canidae OR Eagle Pack for Rott & Dane Hi, Okay I am racking my brain and trying to do as much research as I can.. I have a 1 1/2 Rotty and a 10 week old Great Dane and I have tryed feeding a puppy food to the pup and an adult food to the Adult, but they end up switching. Can someone just please tell me if I should feed Eagle Pack or Canidae ?And if I feed Eagle Pack can I go with the Power Pack or just the Natural ? Please help me, they are on Iams for the moment and their coats arent looking thier best, thanks !

The decision on what to feed is ultimately yours. The members here can offer suggestions on their experiences with different foods, but the bottom line is; it's up to you! Canidae seems to be fed by alot of members, with good results. It's formulated for all-life stages, so with your adult dog and a puppy, this brand may work for you. I'm not endorsing any products! I'm not even a kibble feeder, it's just apparent from reading here, that Canidae has been recommended often. Check out the websites for both brands, read the ingredients, and make your decision based on what you know is in these foods. Good luck to you. kathy

Eagle Natural Pack is THE FOOD recommended by a lot of Great Dane breeders for their puppies. Search some Great Dane websites and you will see this come up again and again. You've probably already seen that since this is one of the foods you've mentioned. If you haven't already, check out the info at this site on feeding a Dane: http://www.daneworld.com/LindaArndt.htm Canidae is a great food with quality ingredients and no corn, soy or beet pulp and contains 4 meat sources. It is also a moderate protein/fat 24/14.5 food but has high calories - 466 per cup. While it is an all life stage food, my conncern is with the calories. The protein and fat levels are fine, as are the ingredients, but the calories may be too high for a growing pup which could lead to growth which is too fast. Just my opinion as I have never fed Canidae to a pup. Canidae is much higher in calories than most puppy foods. Eagle Natural Pack has three meat sources, moderate to low protein/fat 23/12 and moderate to low calories - 330 per cup. It does, however include ground corn and beet pulp. If you search the food discussions on this forum you will see that corn is much maligned as an ingredient in dog food. You will have to make that determination yourself. Beet pulp is also maligned because it adds sugar to the food and some believe that it can turn the coat a reddish color. It should be noted that Eagle uses white beets with the sugar removed.
