Guido gets 2 sardines with her morning veggie slush and I have not noticed any ill effects, she also gets a can of either whitefish or salmon as a subsitute for her chicken backs about 1x every other week. Other than the fish breath she appears ok.

Hi Janet! I use pure salmon BODY oil in a gel cap form. Cod LIVER oil doesn't contain the high amts of omega3-essential fatty acids that we look for in the oil supplements. Cod LIVER oil is high in Vit A & D, but the "kids" should be getting enough of that in the meat and vegetables you're feeding. It won't hurt them to use the Cod occasionally, but I'd consider a good fish body oil for daily use. Flaxseed is another source, but it isn't as well utilized. kathy

Also, consider feeding fish at least once a week! Canned mackerel, salmon, or sardines in water or tomato sauce are probably the best choices. Unless you can get ahold of some good fish heads! The brains are incrediblly nutritious! Bon Appetit! :o) kathy

Janet - I had to laugh when I read your post about the vitamins, etc., for the dog's. You should see "Diva's" cupboard here! It looks like a health food store! I don't give all of those supplements, all of the time, but I have things around for those just-in-case situations. And she's got her own freezer filled with more food then ours! These spoiled rott'n kids! kathy

Years ago, moms were told to give their kids Cod Liver Oil and my mom thought it was the exilir of the gods. She dosed everyone, including our wire haired fox terriers. We all had nice fur and hair. I haven't ever seen salmon body oil and flaxseed is something I've read mixed reviews on, so I'm taking a pass. Since I also give the dog a multi-vitamin [human] supplement and brewer's yeast tabs and vit. E and C., she's probably healthier than I am. I never take my supplements - too busy and end up forgetting. Payton (':)') |
