How long to blow his coat?

Good God, all of our dogs are suddenly shedding and the hair is just awful. How long does it take until they completely blow their coats? They were so beautiful when we changed over onto the Barf diet, now they seem to be losing so much hair, I think though that they are blowing their winter coats; I don't think it has anything to do with their diets.

A big change in diet will quite often cause a dog to blow its coat. Maggie normally only sheds out once a year. It starts towards the end of June and we're eating dog hair until about mid-September. When I got Dresden, I guess the stress of having a new dog (and being the new dog) in the house caused them both to blow coat. I'd thought one was bad, I found out you haven't lived 'til you've had two blowing their coats at the same time. That started in January and was over by the end of March. It would seem that the answer to your question is "around 3 months". :)

About 6 weeks for Hannah. It started in mid-february, about the time the weather started warming up, and the worst of it lasted until almost the end of March. I was brushing her twice a day and could still easily fill up a plastic grocery bag per day with the hair I was sweeping up.

Sheena is still blowing her coat (all over the house)!! Seems like it has been a few weeks now. I brush her and next day a brush full of hair again. Oh those pesky undercoast hairs that just flies around everywhere!!

ahhh, good old shedding season

Mine have also started for the year. This ones always worse than in the late fall. its around an 8 week period for mine. Probably because they all don't start at exactly the same time. I give them each a good thorough bath and use the rubber curry to work up a good lather and work out some of the hair. A good brushing eveyday will help you keep a handle on it. The dogs aren't half as bad as the horses. My horses look GREAT this time of year. Good thing they aren't in the house :D

Thank you so much for the replies. I was under the assumption that this shedding would subside in less time, so now I am not at all surprised at how long it feels for the coats to get back to normal.
