| Other red meat RMB I was reading on some other forums about barf and the fact that most of us feed too much chicken as a staple (I'm guilty). I was looking for more red meat, but not hamburger. I would like RMB. I have asked my butcher to get me some beef neck bones. He also says he can not grind beef bones as they are too hard. What other red meats do you all give. I have no idea what beef neck bones look like, but my girl crushes pork neck bones so..... :D I already do green tripe, fish, turkey (she doesn't like much anymore), ground backs, chicken backs, organ meat, marrow bones on occasion, lamb (when I have extra $$) and pork neck bones. Any thing else to try would be great. Richard |

| I am of the once who don't feel like spending $6.99 for a pound of ribs for a dog, so my choices are limited to chicken backs/necks, turkey necks and wings, pork necks and beef necks. Beef necks are pretty hard, so he doesn't eat all the bones, therefore he doesn't get them very often. If you have any ethnic butchers (oriental or portugese) in your area you may find them there.

| I agree with Homerhomer, raw shouldn't cost an arm and a leg(no pun intended). I think of all the years I fed the same 2 or 3 kibbles to my dog. I really don't think we are being too mundane if we supply our dogs with a staple of chicken rmb's. Especially considering that most raw feeders give their dogs a variety of foods. Canned Mackeral, eggs, chicken or beef liver and hearts, tripe, kidney, lamb shanks (when on sale), marrow bones, knuckle bones, beef necks, rabbit, ect. In addition to the veggies and supplements like flax oil, sea meal, yogurt, pumpkin, etc. Many of us also feed a small amount of table scraps and a few meals of quality kibble. With all that, my dogs diet is better for them, then mine is for me.;) Like Homerhomer said, check the asian markets if you have any around. I found that they supply packages of all chicken hearts for less then what I pay at the grocery for mixed gizzards and hearts. They also have ducks feet, but I figure those would just be a little snack, and have not tried them yet. |
