| Eagle pack dog food? Hi all, Quick dog food question. I have started my dogs on Eagle Pack Original dog food kibble, mixed with a teaspoon of Abady canned food. What are your opinions on Eagle Pack kibble? I was feeding Canidae - but noticed that Onchu and Laika did not eat it well, and that Odin and Delila were getting fat. Odin is 120+ lbs, and was only getting 3 coffee mugs a day (1 in the am, 2 after work). Delila is 100 lbs and was only eating 1 coffee mug full split between 2 feedings. Now that we switched over to eagle pack ALL 6 of the dogs love it, and Delila can actually eat 2 cups per day without getting fat. Odin is still on 3 but we are trying to get him to loose some weight. I am very happy with this food, they look great, have great energy, not a lot of poop. I was just seeing how you all felt about that food. We tried Innova which did not agree with Odin's digestive system AT ALL, Canidae which my dogs were gaining on and did not like, wellness they will not touch, sojourner farms they will not touch, california natural they will not touch, etc...

| Roscoe's Dad- I have personally seen BO, and trust me, Stephanie is feeding him, and feeding him, and feeding him! He is a happy guy! And not just alittle spoiled! Which he desreves every bit of! I wish their was a picture posted of just how big his head and frame are compared to what tiny meat is on him. He must have been, at one time, a solid and large boy. Give Steph sometime, and wait for new pics. He'll be the big boy he was before! Sorry, I know I got off the thred, but Steph's feeding regime is more complicated than my household finances! Heather |

| Eagle Pack's content: INGREDIENT LISTING: Meat meal, ground corn, rice flour, chicken meal, corn germ meal (dry-milled), poultry and animal fat (preserved w/natural mixed tocopherols, citric acid and rosemary extract), dried beet pulp, fish meal, brewers dried yeast, wheat germ meal, egg product, salt potassium chloride, vitamin-mineral fortified and the "custom supplements - wellness for life" nutrition program. I don't think this is a very good food. The reason your dogs like it is probably the "poultry and animal fat" addition - all taste, no nutrient. And my understanding that if corn is listed in the first five (or three?) ingredients, it's not good. Corn is the cheapest protein out there and is used only as a filler. My dogs got fat on Canidae too, but I decreased their Canidae and added other stuff....could you consider that? Also, I might be losing my mind, but I thought you fed BARF? I remember a photo of you feeding the dogs chicken backs?

| Yucky Food! I don't know anything about your feeding situation, but seeing as how you asked for opinions, I'll offer mine. Judging by the ingredient list posted by Soapie&Buddy's Mom, and what I now know about kibble, I wouldn't feed this food if it was free! WAY to much corn and the first ingredient listed is MEAT meal. Not a specific listing of which meat..just meat. I'm not trying to criticize your choice, you have to feed what your dogs will eat. But, perhaps they are turning up their noses at good food because you are switching so often and after they show dislike. Perhaps helping create a picky eater. (Roxanne was known for her hunger strikes when on kibble) We all know that no healthy dog will starve itself. Pick a good food and stick with it. They'll come around when they get hungry and realize, this is what's for supper, eat it or wait for the same thing tomorrow and be hungrier. If they are gaining too much on Canidae you could try adding low calorie veggie or fruits during the day to keep their tummies full and feed the amount of Canidae nessessary for maintainence without weight gain. Of course there's always the option of more exercise or a more strenuous calorie burning exercise when you don't have time for walks and such. Or even in addition to walks. Please don't be offended, I'm meant no flames;) just being honest and trying to help. Good Luck! Who would've thought feeding dogs could be such a pain :D

| Actually we use to feed 1/2 canidae, 1/2 raw. The dogs still do get raw meat from time to time :) I am just not impressed with Canidae anymore. Three of the six of my dogs were developing dull coats, and they just didn't seem to like it. We do daily exercise which includes walks, outside play, inside play, etc... but they were still getting fat. I think I am going to look into Healthwise, which is made by Natura(who also makes innova and california natural). I will let you guys know. Thank you all for your honest opinions, that was exactly what I was looking for. I will be switching again soon :)

| Healthwise I remember hearing good things about this kibble. Not sure of what the ingredients are..I'll have to go look. I'm really hoping this works for you. Its frustrating to spend money on good food that your dogs won't eat or aren't thriving on. If Canidae is not doing for you (or them) then its as simple as that...time to find something else. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you and your gang! :)

| Re: Eagle pack dog food? Quote:
I use real measuring cups for mine so I can fine tune and keep close track of thier weight. 1/4 of a cup in either direction can cause a big difference! My Grrrlz are doing great on Canidae, I wonder why yours are not? Alexa gets 3 Cups/day and so does Bree although she is smaller, she is VERY active! Zooooom!<<<<<<<<<<<<<There she goes!:D I agree with Dixiegrl. MEAT? I will NOT feed Guess-a-meat, EVER. Think about it: If it's beef wouldn't they say Beef? What else could it be? Hmmmmm. YUCK!:p The added salt might be another reason that they seemed to like it...I'm glad you chose something else but I think that your dog's are playing you like a bass drum. Mine did for a while. It got so bad that I even had to change the FLAVOR of the canned food I was mixing in every day! Variety may be the spice of life but I won't feed crappy food just cuz my dogs like it. Geez, I'd probably have them on Kibbles-n-bits! AhhhhK!!!! Blechhh! There are only so many great kibble formulas out there...once you go through them all, then what? Time for "Tough Love"?;) I wish you and your wonderful rescue crew much success, health and happiness!:) Christy

| I've never heard of healthwise, but the ingredients look a lot better than the eagle pack.
