| Is biting nubby sign of future skin problems? I have read this forum for a while and beleive you guys when you say most skin problems are related to diet. I feed my 15 week old Canidae and vegetable slaw at night with hard boiled eggs and maybe some cooked chicken livers. He is starting to bite around the base of his tail a lot. You cant see any irritation but if you press your fingers in there, you can feel some scabs (slight). The rest of his coat looks great. No dandruff or anything. i am just worried that this is a precursor to more serious skin problems. Could someone give me some insight or am I just being an over worried daddy? |

| FLEAS! Sounds like fleas to me. Closely examine the area. Can you see a bunch of black "dirt" close to the skin? Run a flea comb through the area and/or take your pup to the vet to be diagnosed. The only time one of mine has really had a problem licking or biting the base of the tail area is when they've picked up some fleas. Since using frontline I haven't had a problem with fleas but I recognize the "symptom". The flea dirt will be a sure sign.

| Diamond Dog, I pm'd you -- check your "user cp" for my messages. My Viva bit her booty too; probably wasn't fleas; the vet said her coat looked too good. I found little scabs and the vet says it was probably itchy nips from puppy play group. I may never know for sure--but she's fine now. Does your pup play rough with other puppies? --Sarah |
