| average cost for feeding? How much does it cost to feed a fully grown Rottweiler? I understand that there may be lots of different food but would you say, from those experienced, that it would cost around 50$ a month on an average to feed the dog using commercial food that you get outside? I quote this figure from info I got from the net. Also, can you cook food at home and give it? That's probably going to be more expensive right? -Sid |

| I have 2 adult dogs. Tippsy (Rott/Doberman Mix about 55-60 lbs) & Moose (Rott/Pitt Mix about 115-120lbs) I feed them Canidae dry dog food. It costs me $28 for a 40lb bag. That bag lasts about 3 weeks so a little less than a month. I think $50 for a month is definitely adequate for 1 Rott for 1 month. Even with a super premium food. That's just my experience. :) |

| Sid .... do a search on BARF (that would be your cooked meals). According to the people that BARF :D it doesn't cost anymore than premium kibble. Just remember it takes time (which I don't have). I can get a bag of Canidae for $34. Right now Holly can go through it in about 5 weeks. But, she is also at the point to where I'm thinking of cutting back her portions (one of the initial reasons for starting Canidae was because she wasn't gaining weight on anything). I guess it depends on whether you plan on adding additional food/supplements to the kibble. Holly also gets homemade yogurt, treats, and some bones. $50 a month is more than enough.

| Feed price If you are feeding a super premium kibble, than I would say $50 is plenty for 1 dog. If you are feeding a super premium kibble you will feed less than other brands so it will also save you money. If you feed BARF, everything is raw not cooked. I feed BARF and the only cooked things they get are home made dog cookies, brown rice, and oatmeal. You can also feed a home made cooked diet. BARF costs me about the same every month to feed than the crappy kibble I was feeding. The meat part of their BARF diet costs me about $2.40 a day. The veggie/fruit part of their diet costs be about $1.00 a day. That is for 3 full grown Rotts and 1 Rott pup (almost a year old now and raised exclusively on BARF:D ) So $3.40 a day x 26 days (they fast 4 days a month)...$88.40 a month. Not a bad total for 4 Rotts. I was going through 2, 40 lb bags of kibble@$43 dollars each every month. I'll pay that extra $2.40 any day. Its definately worth it. I gotta get a scanner so I can post my before and after BARF pics.

| Cost of Feeding Rotties I have 4 rotties - 3 adults and a 8 month pup... they go through a bag of Canidae in 3 weeks - so on average I purchase 2 bags a month - in MD it costs $38 a bag so it costs me about $70 for about 6 weeks food... not to mention all the other goodies they get in between, carrots, veggies fruit, marrow bones ...... Put it this way..... my grocery bill is a lot less than what I spend on the dogs per month
