Canidae question I'm planning on switching Roxy to Canidae within the next month, currently feed Science Diet and want to feed her something better and in reading the posts thought this was a wise choice. She's 6 1/2 months right now. My question is how should we transition over to Canidae, do we start mixing or just stop the SD and start the Canidae. Also, i was looking at their website and i guess we should buy the adult food now for her, correct? And i only have to feed her 2-3 cups per day? Thanks for your help!

canidae only makes one "All-Stages" formulation for all ages of dogs; puppy-senior. as far as switching your pup to the new food; do it in a gradual method slowly increasing the ratio of Canidae to SD. there is another recent thread on this exact issue. just watch how your dog tolerates the food..

Here's the post that Burns was talking about :)http://www.rottweiler.net/forums/sho...threadid=11896 I just switched my 2.5 year old to Canidae about 6 weeks ago and I can't tell you how happy I am. His coat is so shiny and soft, his smelly gas is gone(woo hoo:D :D) and he eats it all up in no time. As for how much to feed her it depends on how much she weighs, the directions are on the the bag. My male is 100lbs. he gets 4 cups a day. Good choice:) You won't regret it.

Thanks, just read the other post. I can't wait to try it. As soon as we get her back from my parents, hopefully by the end of February (she wasnt allowed in our apartment so my parents offered to let her stay there, too bad they are 200 miles away, until we found a new place, so we are buying a townhouse!), we should be doing the switch. Do you guys think i should just buy a smaller bag to start with to make sure it agrees with her though, probably, huh? And it really helps with their gas??!! Thank goodness! Now my boyfriend wont be able to blame it on the dog any more! Thanks again!

| Tara, Since I didn't read the post they quoted, this might be a repeat. You can add yogurt with active yeast for the gas problem (either with the food or by itself). Your dog might like the Canidae better if you add water & let it make 'gravy'. Holly doesn't want to wait for the 'gravy' to make, she wants it as soon as I add water. :D You might find that your dog loves the Canidae so much that you can make the switch faster. I planned to do the switch over a week, and actually did it in 2 days. Holly was scooting the old food out of the way and only eating the Canidae!!

I went for the gusto and got the 40 lb. bag right from the start. I'm not an expert here but I would think that if she hasn't had any digestive problems in the past and since you're upgrading food with the Canidae she probably won't have a problem......experts correct me if I'm wrong here ;) LOL....my husband blames the dog too. I can't comfirm that it was just the Canidae that fixed the gas problem because I also started adding 2 tbsp. of active live culture plain yogurt to the Canidae. I had read in several posts that yogurt helps, if not all together, eliminate the smelly farts plus it's good for them. At that point I was willing to try anything. Payton sleeps with me, nobody yell at me he's a great heating blanket, and there's nothing like waking up out of a sound sleep to THAT SMELL!! It must be so hard for you to be away from your baby:( I'm glad to hear that you will be reunited with her soon;)

Terrie, It's been a very hard past month, traveling constantly. But she's worth it! Cant believe they would not let her stay there. She's the only dog in the complex that the kids would want to play with. We were half way finished with her basic training, had to cancel that... My mom does go over the basic commands though with her daily. Do you think this is okay? We gave her all her old homework assignments and showed her how to do the commands. She's doing well there, and getting lots of love! And to think, my parents orginally were so mad at me getting a rottie and said she would never be allowed in their house! hehe! fell in love with the little thing first time they saw her! can't wait until we move!So i should just mix the plain yogurt in with her food once a day? We would sometimes put peanut butter, yogurt and mix in some treats in her kong and freeze it, she loves that! We'll try to mix some in with her food too! What about eggs? We have scrambled her an egg and put it in her food, she goes crazy! she sees us cracking the egg and she justs sits there waiting! she will though, push the rest of the food around and just get the egg at first, then eat the rest. Are eggs good for her or should we stay away from them? Thanks for all your help! You guys are great!

Tara, I'm PM ing you about the separation because it gets off the subject at hand. Plus I can relate...big time! Look for it in a while. Payton gets fed 2 cups Canidae twice a day. I mix the yogurt in with both meals. I , on occasion, also add fresh chopped fruit, veggies, chicken, tuna, salmon, etc. He loves it!!!:D He loves peanut butter but I don't give it to him very often because he's eats it too fast and chokes, very scarey. I've done eggs too but he too eats around the kibble to get the egg so I try to add something that sticks to the kibble that makes the other stuff I add stick as well. I personally haven't heard anything bad about eggs it doesn't seem to bother him and I don't do give it to him very often. The vet said it was ok :) Terrie
