Vacuum Your Dog Clean

Hello everyone,
A couple of weeks ago I started vacuuming Chibi with the old "Wet-Dry Vac after brushing him to remove the loose hair from his coat. I found that he loved it and that he would actually lay down on his back to let me vacuum his belly. Yesterday I gave him a bath and after drying him, I vacuumed him again. I think it's great, his hair doesn't get all over the place anymore and he loves it. This morning when I was vacuuming a pile of dirt in the garage I called Chibi and said "Let's get you cleaned up" and he laid down to get vacuumed. I think this hilarious and a great way to clean your dog. Does anybody else do this or is my rottie the only one that submits to this?

chibi-boy - There are a lot of us out here who vacuum our dogs daily. I have an upright with a detachable hose, I use it with the brush attachment (to get the deep loose hair and dander). It's so easy and even better........no clean-up. ;)

My sister thought that I was exaggerating until she came over one day and I broke the vacuum out, without a word Payton ran into the room and sat in front of the vacuum, waiting patiently for me to groom him. My sister watched in amazement as he sat there and let me do it.

Aren't they great.......I just love them:D :D

I wouldn't even begin to know how to introduce this to the Daiser since the vacuum (not even directed at her) sends her into ridiculous spaz like hysterics (afraid of it, fascinated?). She barks like crazy, runs around in circles and alternately runs from the vacuum and then tries to attack it. Go figure.

HA HA HA!! I completely agree with this one...how many of us have TEETH marks on our vacuum cleaners?? Ben has UNPLUGGED the darned thng on occassion (I now have to plug it in behind the sofa where he can't see where it's going!) to get it to stop it's dog-awful noise!

He too runs away and back to the thing trying to 'kill it' while I vacuum up after him! Of course, I'm laughing hysterically watching him, and we usually don't get too much cleaning done once that starts!! If I *really* need to get cleaning doen, I pick up a marrow bone from the store and he'll ignore everything, that is, until the 'monster vacuum' comes too close to him and his bone (which is about 10 feet for him!!) <LOL>

I'd LOVE to see pics of you all vacuuming your dogs!!

Mine attack brooms, vacuums, shovels, rakes, hoses; in short, anytime I need to get some real work done, I have to keep them away from the scene.
They are not angry about it, it is some sort of game to them, but the *sounds* they make.....like a high pitched barking scream! Never heard them make this noise any other time.

Dresden my Axel is the same way with moving objects. I used to have to put him outside to use the broom in the house.
Then one day a lightbulb went off in my head..hehe.
He knows down & stay. I used this as a training exercise. :)
A few times in the beginning, i had him break a stay to get to the broom. I just took him back to his spot & he caught on real quick.
Now, i can sweep the floor without any- help- ;) , anytime i want. I still let him jump and play sometimes, but when momma says down & stay he knows it isn't play time then.
Vaccum him....that is never going to happen, I have tried..LOL. He acts like it's a great beast & it's going to suck him up inside the hose.

My baby Diablo thinks the mop is a free ride across the linoleum floor. That is the first thing he goes for when he comes into the utility room and then just looks at me like
can we please. Unless things change there is
no hope of ever using the vac, he would not even look twice at the mop if it was anywhere
around. LOL though they are so smart.

Anti Vaccum Dogs

There would definately be a mutiny at my house if I tried to vaccum any of my dogs. When the vaccum comes out of the closet the dogs vacate the premises. They hate it. I don't know why, and I have never reinforced their fear (that I know of) But the vaccum is public enemy #1 in my house.

Just for info; our boy reacts the same to the HEAD of the cleaner - the bit with the revolving brush in it that you push along the floor. Runs at it, growls, runs away etc etc.

However I got him to sit down quietly and he let me vacuum him with the small brush attachment - all the while keeoing an eye on the floor attachment!!!!!!!!!! Now he loves it BUT he still goes for the head when its being pushed round the floor!!!!!!!!

I concur! D'Argo is worse than Crichton! D'Argo will get as far from the vacuum as possible. Crichton is a little more curious, but still doesn't dig on it that much. D'Argo is also the one that will walk way around a man hole on the ground or any other "lid" in the cement or street. Silly dog! :p

Vacuum barking

When I use the vacuum for its typical purpose of cleaning the floors, Diesel will growl and bark at it (same for brooms, mops, etc..) but if I take the hose attachment off, he'll lay on his back and let me vacuum him... and he LOVES it.

When I noticed that he barked at the vacuum, I used it as an opportunity to teach him "speak"... I would push the vacuum towards him (it was off) and naturally he'd bark at it, so he got a "good speak" and a cookie. Now, he will speak on command and doesn't seem to be all that interested in attacking the vacuum cleaner any more... go figure!
