puppy and chicken inhalation My brand new pup Molly swallowed a wing tip whole. Then she virtually inhaled a neck (on Christmas day). This was her first exposure to raw. What a little savage she is. She absolutely goes bonkers for raw. I hold all her raw food with pliers now. This makes her chew and saves my already damaged fingers. ;) My question is, how long before that Iams puppy food is cleared and the chicken parts exit? I'm concerned about the bones from the first two inhalations. :( She is about 9 1/2 weeks old. Thanks. Concerned:(

| I wouldn't worry the bones will be digested. Kibble usually takes about 16 hours to thorough the systems completely but I am not sure it takes the same time with little puppies like that.

Thanks, I figured her system was already done with the kibble but her stool has appeared the same as when we got her, so...I just wanted to get some kind of idea from you guys.:)

palepeople, please don't worry, my 15 month old male swallowed a WHOLE chicken wing when he was 8 weeks old and I was a nervous reck . After doing that he looked at me as if to say, do you have any more? If it went down o.k. there's no need to worry, bones are easily digested. If it makes you feel better keep a look out for his poop, don't panic if you see some bone fragments in it though. Let us know how things are:D Take care. I had to chuckle at the part about the pliers, LOL. It might benefit you to teach Molly the term EASY or NICE then she won't grab the food, that's what I do with mine and it works like a charm. ANYTIME you feed her by hand give her one of those commands, pick the word or phrase you want then use the same one everytime. Judy:D

you'd use pliers too if you had a little taz~maniac devil think your finger was a nice little chicken neck. so far, like Judy mentioned, I have been trying to get her to go easy, by saying "easy", and praise her when she chews appropriately. She has done much better.:p I have also been trying to let her know who is the boss, and correcting her when she growls over the rmb's. My sister in law is the breeder in this case and she says it is imperative that we are able to not only get close to her when eating but take away food. One reason is that we have three little children ( one crawling), and they need to be safe, no growls or nips at the children. Another reason is dogs can get into something dangerous or valuable, and they MUST give it up to the human. So far she has been lots of fun!:D By the way, any problems with giving pork bones? I've seen some people do and some don't, and Dr.B's book includes pork bones. Just wondering?:p
