| Re: Unable to start my female on raw diet :( Hmm...I wonder if she threw it up? That would be weird for her to hold it in her mouth for an hour. You would have noticed her chewing or something. I gave Nisha raw (turkey neck) last night for the first time, it gave her a bad tummy ache . Maybe your girl just isn't used to it yet.

| Re: Unable to start my female on raw diet :( No, I am positive she didn't throw it up. It was exactly as I gave it to her and I know she didn't throw it up because it came right out of her mouth as soon as I called her to me. Plus right after leaving the kitchen she was oddly going from room to room, while usually she will play with her brother. This does not surprise me as this is her typical behavior. In the past she ate her bones only after staring it for hours. I guess she thought of hiding it in her mouth because she knew that I would take it from her after 10 minutes. This is just some sort of psychological behavior, I think it has to do with the fact I have other pets. It's like she never feels safe to eat valuable things, even when crated :( *Kaiser my male, ate his first chicken neck yesterday. He was ok but his stool was a bit slimy looking. I guess some dogs may get a bit upset tummy when they start raw. I am guessing you started experimenting just as i did with left over raw turkey necks and gizzards, lol! |

| Re: Unable to start my female on raw diet :( What type of meat are you trying to give your girl? Most people seem to start with a big chicken thigh. Have you done some research on raw? Joined chatgroups on it? I found that when I started researching that its not that uncommon for dogs not to know what to do with there first raw meal...kibble is sprayed with flavor enhancers and things to make it smelly and yummy, where as the meat you feed her won't have too much of a smell. I started my boy on chicken thighs about a month ago, I held the piece of chicken in my hand and encouraged him to eat it, after a few meals I just let him at it, the main reason I held it for him was to make sure he was a chewer, but in your case it could encourage your girl to eat. Now he eats beef, fish, tripe and lamb, the only things we've had trouble with him eating is heart and kidney, and I'm sure its because he didn't really know what to do with it. I gave it to him in big chunks and he would try to chew it and then spit it out, almost like he liked it but thought the texture was gross. So I just cut the heart and kidney into smaller bits and he just scoffed them down. Once he's used to it I'll go back to giving bigger portions. If something isn't working for you just try a different approach..maybe a different type of meat? Also, just be careful feeding chicken necks, I used to feed them when he was slow eating his raw, but now that Kina is a pro I worry that they are perfect size to get lodged in his throat. Ideally you are supposed to feed bones that are bigger than the dogs head, but that can be a little tricky with rotties. |

| Re: Unable to start my female on raw diet :( I feed my Rottie a raw diet. How many times a day are you feeding. If you are feeding twice a day make one meal kibble then the next meal just RAW. Thats what I did starting out. I started with chicken leg quarters. First day took him a while to figure it out. Next day crunch, crunch, swallow. Been great ever since. Feeding venison now and he is loving it. Give it time they will come around.
