Myths About Feeding Raw

I am so outraged after being told today that feeding my dog Raw would make my dog "blood thirsty" that I have decided we could use a thread dedicated to just this. The Myths Of Feeding Raw. :) That way, any folks who have heard such rediculousness won't be turned away from feeding raw.

So here's what I was told....
He proceeded to explain to me that once Marley gets that taste of blood, he'll go crazy, and that if my 3 year old son gets a cut or gets hurt and bleeds, that I'll be in trouble.... I attemped to brush it off and explained that it was a myth.. and that my dog would NEVER try to EAT my son if he got a scrape and blead a little bit, but many ignorant people are set in their ways...

Any other myth that you have dealt with???

Myth: A raw diet is the BEST diet for your dog.

Truth: Not ALL dogs do well on raw. The BEST diet for your dog is one that provides all the nutrients your dog needs and one that he/she can tolerate.

Before anyone gets up in arms.....50% of my dog's diet IS raw.

I had a vet tell me that raw food would make my dogs at risk of diseases and parasites that they wouldn't get from "real" dog food.

Myth: Dogs have evolved into omnivores.

Fact: The canine digestive system is not equipped to digest grains.

Addendum: always consider there are "special needs" diets in every species.

Myth: Dog will get worms from a raw diet.

Fact: Most meats today come from sources that do not carry worms. There is a chance feeding wild fish, and deer...but if the meat is frozen before being fed then it reduces the possibility.

Dog will get worms eating mice, or deer or rabbit poop.

the taste of blood will make your dog go crazy?!? LMAO!!!! I've fed my dog raw for like 20 months now and she shows no signs of wanting to eat people...LMAO!!!!!I swear, this is just too funny.....

Myth - eating raw food will make my dog more aggressive and he'll start killing animals for food.


I sure wish he'd kill the family of mice living in my bushes! Don't want him to eat them though...maybe we haven't been on raw long enough.

LMAO!!!!!! See, the problem is that you're dog isn't getting enough blood...LOL!!!
