Again, my question is... you just can't up and immigrate. To do it legally, you need documentation which they had to have had to land in Miami and clear customs with a dog. You can't just up and move to the U.S. from Jamaica. It is not a US territory or possession like Puerto Rico or Guam. Relatives can sponsor a person ... something is missing in this story.
(FYI - my friend filed for divorce from her newly rich husband!)

Not more or less important - but different. God gave humans dominion over the animals - but with dominion comes RESONSIBILITY and compassion. Dominion does not give humans the right to wantonly destroy to treat a nonhuman creature with cruelty or as "disposable". We must accept that once you take an animal into your life, that animal is totaly dependent upon you - it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to care for the animal and provide for him. You made the decision voluntarily with free will.

I know this will make me very unpopular - however, Unlike most, I do not give excessive importance to humans in the big picture of life. In fact, I think we are more of a liability. Humans have destroyed the planet, brought war, destruction and loss of life bothhuman and animal to unconscionable levels. Humans kill for fun, pleasure, sport and/or power.

Just wanted to clarify that I wasn't stating that he did it illegally. I didn't want anyone to get that impression from my last post.

Most people who plan to move to another country usually spend a good year to two years doing nothing but saving up money, working two jobs and surfing the internet to see where are the better areas to live in and what sites to look at to apply in advance for a job. This is what friends who are immigrants to Canada have told me. How their parents worked two jobs in their native country, and saved, saved, and saved. How it wasn't a few months plan, it took a year or two worth of planning. They didn't have access to any internet at that time.

Not sure how the immigration system in the U.S. works. But a good friend of mine lost half of her family in the civil war that broke out in Rawanda in '94. When she tried to get her younger siblings, all under the age of 13 over to Canada to live with her. She had to have her church sponsor them, or someone else with the financial means to be able to do it. She (being a family member to these siblings) wasn't allowed to sponsor them herself. Both her and her husband at the time had a very nice house big enough for her siblings and her two children to live in, and decent paying jobs. I was told if the person immigrating is having a hard time finding a job and housing, it's the sponsor's responsibility to ensure this is provided for them so that they would not have to turn to financial assistance for help. I think it even goes as far as providing food and clothing. IDK, I agree that it sounds like there is something missing in the story.

Now back on topic to the original post before Roscoe kills me (lol). I still would have brought the dog with me and figured out a way to make it work when I got to my destination. Maybe now that the OP is in the U.S., he should look into a good rescue for his dog if things become too financially stressed for his wife and him.

No moose's mom (BTW we 'nick named our last rott moose), anyway, evident ally the mods didn't like my last post ...I brought up some valid points...and the post was deleted, o just not 'posted'!

But, JIC it flies this time, You see humans do some pretty horrid stuff to each other. We kill, we rob, we maim and other unspeakable acts. Yet at the same time countless lives are saved everyday because of surgery (no animal can do that!), we do uncommonly good things for people that suffer Haiti, Katrina, Tsunami, etc...(no animal can do that), We donate to charities that help others in ways you and I cannot conceive of...So while people do some pretty 'shitty' stuff to each other ...we also do some pretty amazing stuff too. And My feeling is that most people are basically good, but that is just my opinion! I still carry a CCW, just in case :-)

When we took our marriage vows, remember the part...
I, (name), take you, (name), to be my (husband/wife). I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you and honor you all the days of my life.

I, (name), take you, (name), for my lawful (husband/wife), to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part....

Those were not some kind of joke! To misinterpret those is a sin of the greatest magnitude...and my belief is society pays everyday for the likes of people that do NOT take those seriously. So, for someone to equate leaving an animal behind...for 'awhile' while is not consistent with RDN beliefs, they are probably 'ok' in Gods eyes. Due to the fact God gave us dominion over animals...which is the ability to care for them, tend to them and provide for them...

Re: would you leave your wife if she...

When me and my husband got married 10 yrs ago, he had a strong dislike for my dogs. But marry me, marry my dogs as well. They are apart of me. 10 yrs after taking vows the dogs lay at his feet like they do mine. He rubs them, he lays down on the floor with them with his head rest on them and will catch a movie on tv. While he won't admit it, I think he sees my views on the matter and he feels the same way. They are all a very big part of our family and we love them. When they are sick, or get hurt, he is right there taking care of them. When my Kash got down with her elbows and had to be carried all over the place because she couldnt even go potty on her own, he carried her every step of where she needed to go for a solid month. The vows we took are still and always will be fresh on our minds as they should be.

Re: would you leave your wife if she...

Cross, you did make a valid point about vows-this is just a tough situation, period. Is it just a sign of the times that our pets are more important than people? Yeah I believe it is and also that people disappoint us so often and our pets never do. Having said that I still believe I'd have to keep my dogs with me...and I do understand about society paying the price for disregarding vows made before God. Whew this is a hard one

Re: would you leave your wife if she...

I have moved 4 times in my life because renters decided against dogs. My hubby knew i would never give up my babies. There is always some place that will take rotties. My guys are with us from birth till death no exceptions. If I had to eat cereal to feed my dog i would.Share you true feelings with her and make her see how important it is for you. If she loves you it will work out.

Would I leave my wife...Absolutely NOT!

My wife was a Doctor in Russia, She was the medical director of a hospital, has written courses currently being taught in Germany... That is an incredible human being, I am pretty sure we could 'work around' any issues...but her or an animal...NO CHOICE! I'd take my wife everyday...all day!!!

I think the whole point here is your wife wouldn't ask you to leave a beloved pet behind..

Re: would you leave your wife if she...

If you don't find a good job in the US then you had to abandon the dog in the US. So first you and ur wife can immigrate and find a proper place in the US. Meanwhile you can leave the dog in Jamaica with one of your friend or relative for couple of months. Once ur wife is comfortable with the new country & home, you alone can come to Jamaica & take the dog to US. By this u r agreeing with ur wife and simultaneously ur wish also fulfilled.

What is the issue in this?
