Rottweilers In Turkey (article)

My article about Rottweilers in turkey is published in latest USRC magazine...

Here it is:

ROTTDER (Rottweiler Breed Club of Turkey)
We have no information of when the first Rottweilers arrived in Turkey or when Rottweiler breedings started in Turkey. The foundation of Rottweiler Breed Club of Turkey started when we all met on a forum at the end of 2005. Gathering of a few Rottweiler owners, the increasing importance of breed clubs as a result of international dog shows caused us to get under the roof of ROTTDER which was founded at 11.10.2006.

There are no internationally accepted breed clubs and kennels working with these clubs in Turkey so we don't have the definite numbers of Rottweilers in the country. We also do not know the origins of the dogs (pedigrees). Most are poor examples of the Rottweiler from Balkans who are brought into Turkey under unsanitary conditions. These Rottweilers are being sold at pet shops and bought and bred by irresponsible owners and the breed quality is decreasing. To prevent situations like this, and to make owners more conscious and to diminish the prejudices caused by irresponsible owners, the founded breed club (ROTTDER) arranges seminars concerning health, nutrition, shelter, training and socializing.

ROTTDER (Rottweiler Breed Club of Turkey)
The Rottweiler Breed Club of Turkey (ROTTDER) was founded on November 11, 2006. The priorities of the club is mainly as follows:
to gather Rottweiler owners under the same roof
to diminish and eliminate the prejudices concerning the breed
to ensure Rottweilers have the right owners
to provide kennel information about the breed standard and breeding
to find answers of the to the questions of owners concerning health, nutrition, shelter, training and socializing.

The club, starting with the motto " To Real Friends", has arranged five seminars, three training seminars, one on dog psychology and one on Rottweiler health. During the training seminars, owners asked questions to the trainers. At the dog psychology seminar, Professor Doctor Mr. Tamer Dodurka participated as lecturer and gave general information about dog psychology and answered the questions of the guests. The health seminar held at September 2nd, the veterinarians lectured about neutering and spaying of dogs, pros and cons.

Furthermore, to diminish the prejudices against the breed, ROTTDER organizes trips to elementary schools and nursing homes. Members of the club gather each weekend and new seminars are planned.
ROTTDER promotes Dog Breeds and Dog Sciences Federation known as KIF.

Turkey and Rottweilers
Because of the limited number of professional trainers in Turkey, training is related to the owner’s patience and concern. There are no basic obedience classes in Turkey and training is given by certified or uncertified trainers in kennels. Other than this, the most popular training that is asked for is territorial protection and personal protection regardless of the tests done if the dog is suitable for the job or not and most owners have the faith that their dog is capable of this kind of training.

Working Rottweilers
Rottweilers are being used by the Police since 1997. The first Police Dog was a Rottweiler named Kesh (which means Junkie). He was brought to the organization at 2 years of age and was retired at nine. He was put to seep 8 months after his retirement when paralysis began on both his rear legs.
