| Regional Differences Dear all, I've read somewhere that there are some differences between rotties bred in the US compared to those from Germany, UK, and Australia. Is there any truth to that? |

| Re: Regional Differences I'm no expert, but the first "difference" that comes to mind involves tails on the German dogs, but docking is still done regularly here in the US. Hopefully others will chime in with any other differences they know about. |

| Re: Regional Differences Thanks for your reply, besides docking wise, its mentioned that dogs from some countries are shorter and stockier whereas dogs from others are taller. Wondering if its true. |

| Re: Regional Differences genetic traits that a dog has, such as build, have to do with genetics in the lines, not where the dog was born. Regardless of where the dog was born, it should conform to the breed standard, which is pretty much the same in all countries. There are people who come up to me and say "oh, she is an American rottie", about my girl. I just say, "no, she is a poorly bred rottie, but I love her just the same". |

| Re: Regional Differences As Debbie said no matter where they are from a Rott should conform to the same standard with the exception of tails (some countries dock and some don't) However, I will say that Rotts from Eastern Bloc countries do TEND to have shorter muzzles than in most other places. It's what's currently popular there

| Re: Regional Differences Both my girls were bred and born in the US. One is out of a Canadian Ch and and AKC Ch. My other girl is out of titled German imports. I defy anyone to spot any significant differences as they both conform to standard. There was a time when shorter muzzles were popular here as well, but the written angles and proportions haven't changed.

| Re: Regional Differences Yes, you will find differences in the average type you see in some countries and this is particularly noticeable in countries without any breeding control. The entire world looks to Germany for the most beautiful and proven dogs and you'll find Rottweilers of recent German descent in all corners of the globe but they are seldom bred to the same standards elsewhere so their offspring no longer have the stringent selection behind them or the distinction of being ADRK registered. |

| Re: Regional Differences Debbiej - Just love your response about the "poorly bred" rottie! Mine are probably 100% American BYB - but you're right! I love them anyway - and I never intended to breed or show anyway. I'd like to see pics of some of these rotts in different countries. When I look at our photo gallery here though, I see all kinds of differences. Probably doesn't matter where they were bred. |

| Re: Regional Differences In the uk, its getting more and more popular to keep tails and breeders are taking this into consideration before pups are born! |
