I don't claim to know everything but I truly think you got ripped off. Blue merle is not a rottie color. Check your AKC and Canadian Kennel Club standards - in fact check every reputable standard - I don't believe you will find a blue merle! If it is a true rottie, it is one heck of an anomaly and please don't breed.

karenandjeff - Hi and welcome! I live very near you........did you purchase your puppy locally? Sounds like you might have gotten a line of BS - and I don't know of many (to be honest I know of NONE) reputable rottweiler breeders in this immediate area.....hopefully you adore your puppy and will just love him/her for the great dog you will help them become!

Re: blue merle rott???is this real???

Well, in all honesty, you have access to a computer, you could have looked it up on the internet BEFORE purchasing your new little mixed breed puppy from a BYB who is duping his uneducated (not about life, about Rottweilers ; )) puppy buyers.

There are people on this board from Australia who will tell you their Rottweilers are like everyone elses.

AND, just so you know, the Australian Shepherd is not and Aussie breed, it is American in it's creation.

So, in short, yes, you were scammed.

But, love the pup, his creation was not his fault.

I know that kristi, lol, I was just making a suggestion on what it could be mixed with. No tail, blue merle....but I am probably wrong, so oh well....
Love the little guy to death, he never asked to be born. But since you have him now, love him, and treat him the same way

I have shown dogs for a while now....and I raise australian shepards....this puppy truly looks like a rott....he has no australian shepard qualities...also, we saw a full grown brother that is a black/tan rott...and his parents look like rotts also, and his sire is a blue merle also, and they are identical looking but blue merle....this was my boyfriends decision to buy him but, i told him that I had never heard of such...

Re: blue merle rott???is this real???

Blue merle is not an accepted color according to te standard. A black short coat is always a dominant feature. The shorter undercoat can be gray, tan or black. The accent marks over they eyes, cheeks, feet, bow tie on chest, and under tha tail can be tan, brown, rust, or mahogony.

I would be strongly inclined, if thee's any merle anywhere... that there's another breed in his background. Remember, theoretically, each egg is separately seminated. Though it would be unlikely for EACH pup to have a different father, it is theoretically possible. What most likely occured is the sire and dam were bred... and unbeknownst or unbelieved by the owners, another dog "helped." You most likely have a mix.

Re: blue merle rott???is this real???

Well, it is impossible for you to get a actual blue merle Rottweiler - no chance of it happening, not with registered, pedigreed animals. There has to be something mixed in there.

There are a lot of breeds who do come with merle coloring - Beauceron being one. This breed also comes black and tan like rotts. I would suspect that, since the pups are not plush coated like an Aussie, you may have a line of 'Rotts' who were, along the way, mixed with a Beauceron, a Great Dane, something else large with merle coloring.

It is just an impossibility - you can get Rottweilers with incorrect markings, white spots, long or wire coats, but not merle coloring.

Re: blue merle rott???is this real???

Exactly - someone made an oopsy along the way and decided to call the pups 'rare' and make a buck.

Seriously, Daddy could be Rott/Beauceron -not a purebred.

If you google the Beauceron, for those who have not seen them (there is a member with a merle Beauceron on this site as well), you will see that they look somewhat in between a dobe and a rott, and most still crop their ears.

Well, due to lack of proper research, you now have a mutt in your family. Love him for what he is, he is a MIXED breed and how he got that way really does not matter. If you truly wanted a purebred Rottweiler, there were many ways to research that (and this so-called "breeder") way before you purchased him. If the sire was a blue merle, then this is truly a BYB just trying to make a buck off of people by fabricating a false story to pull you into putting more $$$ in his pocket.

I would love to see a pic of him!

Just curious if you have "papers" from this "breeder"?

Re: blue merle rott???is this real???

For the record - Australia follows the FCI Rottweiler standard (from what I could find - the various clubs all list the FCI standard).

Quote:
Colour:

Black with clearly defined markings of a rich tan on the cheeks, muzzle, throat, chest and legs, as well as over both eyes and under the base of the tail.
What it looks like has happened is that they had a mix that was of Rottie type, with a disqualifing coat colour. Rather than admit that it's a mix, they tried to 'rename' it with something funky, to make it sound exotic rather than what it really is - a mix that isn't worth any dollar value at all.

I'm sure he's a lovely puppy. But he's no "Rottweiler". He's a mix. No more, no less.
