Re: blue merle rott???is this real???

As an Australian this gave me quite a laugh. Blue Merle Rotts in Aust, sorry but not in this life time. Further to what others have said this color is not possible from a pure bred rott and as others have also said somewhere there is another breed in this gene pool.

Anyway hope you love and enjoy the dog anyway.

Mick.

Blue Merle Rotties...

Just about a week ago someone was asking about a Blue Merle Rottie, I'm wondering if it is mixed with the Beauceron, as they come in a merle coloration.

Re: blue merle rott???is this real???

I think this is the same thread. Someone posted a pic of their Beauceron on page 2 of this thread. That could be the source of the blue merle color, as could other breeds in which it is found. Not sure what else is in Australia that would be that color -- danes, collies .... (or one of those "not really Australian" shepherds that someone brought there from here)

I wish the OP would keep posting on the board and get to junior member status so we can see a pic of this pup. I'd like to see a pic of the sire, too. Some pups look MUCH more like one parent than the other.

Cool Re: blue merle rott???is this real???

Just a thought that comes to mind with the reference to 'Blue' being made in respect of this dogs breeding. The Australian blue heeler may have been introduced to the breeding gene pool in this circumstance. Irrespective of the final outcome and one blue eye to boot, an adorable animal that will give countless hours of enjoyment and friendship.

Re: blue merle rott???is this real???

I have seen what looked to be a blue merle Rottie. I was in a pet store a few years ago and saw two beautiful 3-4 month old pups for sale. They looked exactly like rotties-head,body type, even the mahogany markings, but instead of black, they were blue merle. I asked what they were and was told that they were Rottweiler crossed with Catahoula Leopard Dog.

ha rotties only come in black and tan, you should have known that before you bought him, i've seen a wall eyed rotty but there is no such thing as a pure bred rotty with a merle coat.

Re: blue merle rott???is this real???

I am so glad I came across this post! I know this is off topic but now I think I finally know what my female is mixed with.
When my husband first got her ( now I know they were BYB's ) everyone told me she didn't look like a normal rottie. I really didn't care because she was our dog. But the more everyone said something the more I looked into it. I called the breeder about it and not only got a run around but all attitude. I always thought she had a little pincher in her but she looked like a rottie except for the tail and back of thighs are lightly fringed. Like I said it does not matter to me but it answers some questions I had.
The two breeds look a little alike, well some of them do.

Yes, BYB is back yard breeder. Its a term for unethical morons who want to make money off of puppies, not bettering the breed.
