| Where to go? Hello all!!! This is my first post here, as I am new to the forum, but not new to Rotties! I had a loving rottie for 12yrs. who at age 12, I had to say goodbye due to Inflamitory bpowl disease. After almost 2 years, I am now in the process of trying to find a new family member. But where to go?I live in Northwestern ontario, and there is one one reg. CKC breeder here, which is where my 1st rottie came from.He was "pet quality" only, but a trusted companion and loyal friend to me.He was the best! Those lines have since passed and now I am looking for a pet, but one I can "show" also, so I don't want to limit myself. I have been looking all over Canada, and also have been considering going over seas to get an offspring from Bronko OD DRAGICEVICA, but am unsure. Where would you look?Canada, USA, Europe? I am just trying to find the best quality dog possible. thanks!! mj |

| Re: Where to go? There is a list of Canadian breeders on the Rottweiler Club of Canada website. Maybe that will help you. You don't need to go overseas to find a good, quality pup. You just need to research (we are unable to list email addresses or references on this forum) and go to shows and talk to the exhibitors. They will be happy to provide you with references or leads to potential litters.

| Re: Where to go? There is a show comming up in April in TO, if you could make it down, you could meet a bunch of great dogs and the breeders behind them. The info on the event is on the CKC web site, as well as the RCC (Rottweiler club canada) web site. I think it would be a great place to start. There is a booster show happening in your town in May, if you can wait that long! There are a bunch of woundefull breeders here in southern Ontario, I don't see why you should really have to look any further. Good Luck, and if you do make it down to the show, you will be able to meet some of the people from here too!! Have you considered a rescue also? There are a lot of great dogs in need of homes there as well. Just a thought.

| Re: Where to go? Hello, Sorry for your loss, I too lost my Rotty of 13 yrs. last year. In the coarse of looking for my new dog I looked at shows, mags, and internet. I wanted a German bred dog because of the strict breeding rules the ADRK has in place. But I did not want a dog with a tail, so I almost settled for a dog from 2 AKC ch's. that was near my location. But as time went on I still kept looking and was able to find a breeder in the USA that was using imported German stock and docked tails. I also had a favorite dog I wanted in my pup's pedigree his name is "Balou" and he is my new pups G-dad. I am so happy with my new dog and that I did not settle. So I just hope you take your time and get what YOU want. I wish I could help you more with some breeder referals but this site is very strict about that. I can tell you that in the last year I have seen 3 different litters all in the USA that used Bronko as stud, so you don't have to go oversea's to get one of his pups. He is very nice looking, and a popular stud. If a pup from him is what you want just keep looking, and if you are not concerned about tails you could import one from Europe too. Also don't worry about having him shipped by plane I was at first, but I ended up having to fly my dog in from across the country and it all went smoothly. Good luck with your search! |

| Re: Where to go? Thanks for the replies. It's a shame that we can't offer "advice"....not saying push your own kennel, but say "this" kennel as champion bloodlines and pups due, look there! As Bronko...yes, he does seem to get alot of action doesn't he!?I am not worries about going overseas, and they will dock the tail for you also.A friend of mine brought a pup in from the last litter of Bronko's from Europe, with tail docked and it is a fabulous looking and well tempered dog. I don't plan to settle, just earching for more information. I was also interested in the male that took best in group at the Westminster, but couldn't find a breeder or kennel in his area either. I am in contact with a few kennels in the USA as well as in Canada, so we will see. It is just amazing that even the breeders here in North America, a large percentage use "european" imports, so why not look world wide! thanks again mj |

I did not know they could still dock in europe? (Maybe I should start a thread on where docking is still allowed)Did he get it from the kennel that owns Bronko in Serbia? As BostonRott said, I too have "heard" of lies about health and titles? with E. european dogs, but I must say they are producing some very good looking dogs, with lots of substance, even in their females. If you know someone that has had good luck importing from them then I would go that route. Just curious about your friend's dog, How old is he? Has he had any health issues with him? Do you know how much he cost? (in dollars) Did all go smoothly with the sale? and shipping? |

| Re: Where to go? What do you plan to do with your dog? I guess then it would depend on which breeder you chose. We have alot of good breeders in Canada. Go to the RCC website www.rottclub.ca and take a look. Also be cautious of imported dogs being bred in Ontario. I know that we have a few members that bought pups from German import parent's and the pups have been diagnosed with heart problems. Many European breeders do NOT do heart or eye certifications on the dogs they breed. Gina

| Re: Where to go? Hello everyone! I recently found this site and am quite impressed with the advice given!!! Thank you for answering questions I had but was afraid to ask back then! LOL Brunie's Mom is correct - "What do you plan to do with your dog? I guess then it would depend on which breeder you chose." If you want a working or show dog, then you need to find a working or show dog breeder - the first few months are VERY IMPORTANT!!! "Imprinting!!!" Beardog - I was also EXTREMELY nervous about buying a pup from Europe after hearing so many things about purchasing overseas. Scared me to death! Did lots of research on the type of dog I wanted, and went looking on the internet. We are very happy that we took the chance - It was like waiting on pins and needles for her arrival!!! My husband thought it was hilarious watching me find the airline's flights, etc., and check her arrival/departure times from each airport (he said I was "one worried mommie" - especially when the plane was delayed!!!) - so I can honestly say she is a world traveler and is more traveled than I! LOL In the end, everything went smooth as silk and we have been in touch with our breeder before and since her arrival!!! I have absolutely no regrets!!! She is what we expected and more and we have high hopes for her!!! Her dam/sire are Hungarian/German bred (ADRK). I did a TON of research (months) before deciding on this little girl (our other Rottie passed away much too soon - heart problem and we got her from USA, hence the ADRK quest) and I am so happy that we took the chance!!! She does, however, have a tail - my husband and I didn't think we would like it, but you know - it really grows on you!!! (No pun intended!) LOL We rationalized it and there are a lot of large dogs with tails that do not get docked, so why not? We had other rotties without tails - this is a change. LOL We love her just the way she is!!! She became a member of our family very fast (actually, I fell in love with her on the spot when I picked her up from the airport!) and she also gets along well with our other 2 dogs!!! She is very healthy, has an excellent temperament, is intelligent, and absolutely beautiful (we, of course, are biased but it was wonderful to hear the same from others). <VBG> So if this is something you want, don't be afraid to go after it. Best wishes in your search and the future new addition to your family!!! |
