UK Rottweilers

I and several others will not be docking tails any more here in the UK. A quality Rottie with or without a tail should excell in the show ring.

Do you currently see alot of tailed dogs in the show ring? When you say "show ring" are you referring to kennel club style shows (such as AKC in the USA) or sieger style shows?

I agree with you that a quality dog should excel with or without a tail. I wish the American Rottweiler Club would change the standard to allow both docked and undocked as the UK club does and Canada. I prefer the tail, but I am willing to compromise.

Shows

We don't have Seiger shows for Rotts here in the UK, we should have done years back but the TOp Breeders of the AKC type would not and will not allow it. Things are going to change though, we have a forum set up now and shortly a database to input pedigrees and information and all share and be honest about our dogs and litters etc unlike the Top Show Breeders who are only interested in the next win, stud or pup to sell and doing each other favours in the ring when they judge. It's all gotten so political that it aint fun or interesting watching any more even when I notice a nice promising puppy coming up.

Only one quality bitch has been made up with a tail. She was bred from the vom Kummelsee kennel in Germany and sent over here. I liked her from the first time I saw her said she would be made up. Since then nothing. There is only one male with a tail due to an illness as a young baby so he could not be docked. He's very very dark hardly any markings but he does well under some judges. Everything else is docked.

Undocked Rottweilers in the UK

Good evening,

Well there are more undocked dogs in the UK and also some breeders who do refuse to dock their pups.
One of them is Di McCann. She owns a Norwegian import bitch and she also leave the tails on the pups when they are born.

sincerely,

Yes, I know Di very well and I just used her Norweigan bitch's son on my bitch who had 8 pups and they are lovely. They are 5 weeks tomorrow 2 bitches and 6 dogs.

Good evening,

Well nice to hear the news that you have a litter which is sired by Di's young dog.
I hope that they are doing well and that the bloodline does match with the one of your bitch.
The imported dogs in your country and than offcourse the ones who are allowed for breeding might be needed very much during the upcoming years. as, according to my personal opinion, the UK Genepool has been pretty small because of the demands by your government for Rabies etc.
To import a dog/bitch at this moment is still a lot of work and you need somebody who is willing to help you out by raising a pup for you during quite a long period but thankfully the times of putting a dog for 6 months in a kennel are in principle gone.

Please do give Di Mc Cann my regards.

I would also like to see the ARC change the standard to allow the breeders to decide what they'd like to do with their puppies, when that time came, without the dog being an outcast in the show ring later. We could always conform to the ADRK's standard for a correct tail.

I've always liked the look of a docked tail on a Rottie, but feel that it is much healthier for the dog if the tail is left on. The same goes for dewclaws.

I've competed against tailed Rotts in Canada and I really don't see what the big deal is since they met the standard. They are still Rottweilers, after all!

Please keep mention of specific breeders out of this conversation. You may refer to the Forum Rules in FAQ if you need to.
Thank you, carry on.
