Be very carefull in Greece if you do decide to move there , dog poisoning seems to go on a lot there. By aparently both local officials and villagers.
Not nice. One of the posters on a UK site who moved there with her greek husband lost her dog through this . appallling really

Another subject all together, but they say that the Greeks will be destroying all the stray dogs in Athens before the Olympics, by feeding them meat laced with poison and/or crushed glass.

Oy. I used to want to visit there, now, not so much.

Yes, I've been receiving alot of emails concerning the poisoning of stray dogs and cats in greece. Apparently, they are trying to clean up the cities due to the upcoming Olympics. Alot of contraversy going on as well as petitions and protests right now. Not sure if it is mainly in one particular city or across the country.

Re: rottweilers in greece?

I know I can say that some parts of Greece are terrible to animals. There is a shelter in Belgium that goes and rescues puppies from Greece as Greece will go on almost mass killing sprees it seems. I don't know much about it but when were looking for a rescue I kept seeing all these puppies in Belgium and they would say they were rescued from Greece by people because dogs were killed at an alarming rate.

The poisoning hasnt just started this year because of the olympics , it has been going on for years. I suppose its the intensity thats increased . Romania is another country with a huge dog problem , with millions of dogs just in the capital bucharest. poisoning and killing of dogs is also widespread here

Re: rottweilers in greece?

I think that we have to understand that stray animals are a huge problem in a lot of countries outside of the USA. They don't have the leash laws like we do or animal rights laws. We are far advanced where that is concerned.

If you've traveled abroad, I'm sure you've noticed that dogs and cats, whether they are someone's pet or a stray, roam freely. I just came back from the middle east and it's crazy how many animals run loose. I'm not advocating what they are doing. I think it's cruel but I just wanted to stress how prolific the stray problem can be in many countries.
