The Perro de Presa Canario or Canary Prey Dog is the "king" of the Island.

Yup the Presa is the daddy.

This island still has illegal dog fighting here as well which i find quite depressing

The 2 only existing dog homes here regularly get dogs stolen for this purpose.(rottis are a favourite when available).

The fact is Spain as a whole is not a very loving enviroment for dogs.The population throw them out like a bag of old rubbish bags when they see fit.

For this reason ill be watching my pooch like a Hawk.

I dont think your post was negative. It was honest, and the more people that know about dog fighting that goes on in the Canaries the better. I shall be posting these details on a site in UK. The best way to try and stop this appalling so called sport is to hit them where it hurts, and in the Canaries it is tourism, I'm sure there are many dog owners in the UK who go to the Canaries for holidays but may think twice about it if they knew of the dog fighting.

You are right,hit em where it hurts,the tourist trade is the ONLY industry in Spain that matters.I work in the tourist trade

I know a lady who works at one of the dog homes as a volunteer who has always got a few titbits of info on whats what ill try get some more data.

If you want to post on any UK animal rights sites feel free.

The sooner dog fighting is consigned to the history books the better.

The MINDSET of the spanish people is of another matter though.

Again, you are been factual. In general, pets in Spain are below "second class citizens." Dog fighting is considered quite an "amusement."
