Passport for dogs

does anyone know if CANADA has passport for dogs when you travel a lot?
In Sweden and the rest of Europe they are starting to develope passports for dogs, it will be easier to keep a track of the dewormings and vaccinations.

I tried to get a hold of my vet but can't get through.

I would be interested to know as well. The Canadian Customs hasn't said anything, and they have yet to ask for the papers we carry with us for the dogs.

I dont know about canada, but in the UK u need a passport or your dog goes in and out of quarantine everytime u travel in and out of the country, this is mainly because they want to keep the UK rabies free.
If you have a land boarder its harder to stop disease, so is there any need for a passport? I thought it was an Island thing?

My dad is a truck driver (crosses the Canada/US border everyday). When he had asked about the possibility of bringing a dog they said that he would HAVE to have papers of updated vaccinations/rabies shot. I don't know if this helps, this is just what we have been told, but a passport I am not sure about.

I know you need papers on vaccinations and stuff but back home you have a passport just like your own. There it gives you every information you need in one little book, instead of having loose papers all the time.

It is almost like a vaccination book, it will tell you the ID number of the dog and all that stuff plus the vaccinations and deworming.

Europe is getting big on this know to because of the EU making it easier to travel with dogs. It will become a law to have a passport when you travel in Europe, but right now there is just a few countries that have passport for dogs.

Definately, its better that 6 months quarantine!!!!

Im glad the law changed to stop pets having to be away from their owners for so long. 6 months is a looooong time.

But the old scheme did keep rabies out, so something had to be said for it, even if it was a bit drastic.

It is the countries that have always had such draconian quarantine laws that are now working with the passports. About time they caught up with science. The biggest concern has been rabies in countries that have always been rabies free. They don't want to import it and that is understandable.

The Americas have never had quarantine and thus no passports. It is however important that when traveling you carry your dog's rabies certificate and ownership papers should you be asked. Within the US, it is still important as different states have different laws. Should your dog be involved in any kind of bite incident, it will be placed in quarantine if you cannot prove rabies vaccination.

They will deport you and your dog quicker than a blink of an eye if you don't go through the proper procedures.

We took our dog over the border and ASKED if it was okay for a day trip needless to say he said it was the canadian police will hold you escort you to the border and review the tape of you entering the country.

Thankfully the tape clearly showed the dog and us pointing and asking could she go too.

We can laugh now but it was totally not funny then.

I know you have to have proof of vaccinations when you cross the border to the state. But I'm going overseas, and was wondering if you can get a passport for dogs in CANADA, but I guess my answer to the question is NO.

Since Sweden does have serious restrictions, you need to get in touch with them and get information as to their requirements. They are one of the countries that traditionally had quarantine. They will have a list of documentation that must be completed. Some require not only that the rabies shot be given a certain length of time before entry, but that a titer be done as well. Formal documentation must be presented and properly completed. It must be organized well in advance to meet the requirements. We know it takes serious planning as people that wanted to take their dogs to Crufts learned when they did not allow enough time to meet the requirements.

I have everything ready for Zack and I to go home. His blood test for the rabies is already done and approved. I just wanted to know if there is any possibilities to get a passport, because Sweden has one. But I guess I'll just get one for Zack when I get home.
