The ONLY difference is country of origin, plain and simple. The standard is the standard no matter what the country and the Rottweiler should always meet the standard. Only other major difference now is that some countries allow tail docking and others do not.

I always thought american rotts were slightly smaller than german especially the head but i might be wrong.

Here in Aus our dogs are a mixture and not much of a standard.

Hi,
I'm also from Australia and mum of two rotties. I agree with Samanthac - the only difference is their birth country. Read the history of the rottie and you will find out where the rottie originated from (Germany). It is a common misconception that the German rottie is more stocky with a large "boofy" head - I once believed it before I did some serious reading prior to being a rottie mum!

There is Australian standards for conformation/showing - check your local Rottie club/association or the Aust National Kennel Council for standards.

Rottie clubs/Canine Assocations also ensure that the puppy you purchase from breeders registered with the club are best of breed. Information such as elbow/hip scores, bite, temperament etc is made available to you.

If you see a mixture of so called "pure bred" rotties, it is likely you have seen results from accidents or backyard breeders making a quick dollar.... and I have seen a rottie or two around my area that are unfortunately, a result of uneducated backyard breeding.

My trainer breeds and shows Rottweilers. I highly doubt you'd be able to tell one of his American bred Rottweiler from a German bred one. The whole American, German, etc thing is just a hoax(not sure if that is the best word to describe it, but it's the first one that came to mind;) )

Hi,

Hoax is a good word for the world ignorance, but not researching the breed standardis a more pleasant way to it. I have three Rotties and the all meet the standard. ;) Hi, Hi, Hi,

It's not a hoax it just sometimes the infor given by uneducated people to the breed give you the wrong info. Keep reading your book, but read the history, health and care of the breed.

As in everything else, the value depends upon who is giving the information. "Popular" books as opposed to books written by a breed person are not your best reference.

No, you are just not reading the right books. Try these:

The Complete Rottweiler - Muriel Freeman
The Proper Care of Rottweilers - By Joan Klem
The Ultimate Rottweiler, 2nd Edition - Andrew Brace
Training Your Rottweiler - Barb McNinch
The Rottweiler Experience by Joan R. Klem & Susan Rademacher
Rottweilers for Dummies - Richard Beauchamp
Dog Training for Dummies - Jack and Wendy Volhard
The Culture Clash - Jean Donaldson

Ok :)

I've read many books on dogs in general,it goes with my job but the rottie books i've read have said on a few occasions about breed standards in the US and it has said about head size,so i'm only stating what i've read.

By the way please don't ask me what books i read it in because i can't look through them all LOL it would take me months

Anyway i'm sure i've got a couple of them books listed and i'll lookout for the others.

Also, web searching is a major plus. I have a few of thos books for the health and care mostly. A person can't go by the head size their head size vary males are more robust than the female.
So, head size will be different.

But there are differences in breed standard and not just the tail-docking issue. Compare the breed standard for the ARC vs. ADRK.

Not at all: Australian rottweilers are born in Australia, just as European Rotties are born in Europe and American rotties are born in the USA...
