Docking to be banned

As of 1st December 2003 tail docking will be banned in 5 states of Australia one of them being Victoria where we live :(
I really do prefer the look of a rottie without a tail but we have had that choice taken away from us thanks to our wonderful government!

Im not to sure how far they will go trying to enforce this ban as yet Iblax, I am trying to look into a bit further but there isn't really much I can find at this stage ?
The first I heard of it was at obedience class last Tuesday night and then again last night when I took my pup to the dog pool. The woman that runs the pool was saying that she had spoken to a couple of rottie breeders who were outraged and apparently they said they would register their kennel name in N.S.W where docking is still permitted....Can this even be done? ( sorry to answer your ? with a ? ...LOL )

I may be in a minority (dons flamesuit), but I'm glad to hear this. I don't like docking, I'm not rabidly against it, but there's no good reason to do it as far as I'm concerned, and I like a tail on a dog (I've always found it odd that show rules forbid showing dogs altered in any way....except docking and ear cropping). They've managed quite well in all the other places which have banned it, I'm sure you'll get used to it. Is ear cropping banned there also?

Not sure what that has to do with anything?
I appreciate that you don't like it but not sure why others should be be able to do it based on your reasoning. I may not like the look of dew claws on a dog, doesn't mean it should be mandatory to get rid of them.

Do you mean you're not sure why others should NOT be able to do it based on my reasoning (I'll assume so, since they ARE able to do it (in the US and Canada, anyway))? Reread my post, I never said anything about whether they should or shouldn't. I merely said that I was glad to hear that they'd banned it in some Australian states, that's not the same as saying that people shouldn't be allowed to do it "based on my reasoning". People get very touchy about this issue, I understand that, but I never said that people shouldn't be allowed to dock because I happen to dislike it.

So then based on your reasoning, if you didn't like Rottweilers you would be 'glad to hear' about them being banned in certain areas of the country? Even though it's wrong, you would be glad to hear about it?

By all means reduce the fact that I don't like tail docking and am glad to see it banned in places which clearly have the public support to do so to the ridiculous extreme that I would therefore also approve of breed bans. It's not at all logical or reasonable, but don't let that stop you. ;)
