Temperment testing in Germany

Does any one know if the test in Germany is different from the ATTS testing? I am now living in Germany and have a year old male Rot. In Germany Rots are now a catagory 2 animal and all Rots need to be tested. Also does anyone know what needs to be done if the dog does fail? Intensive training? muzzling? Thanks ahead of time for any info you can give me.

Sorry, can't help but wanted to wish you well. It's scary what's going on over there in regards to our cherished breed.:(

The laws are different from state to state as well as from city to city. You should contact your local club and find out what laws apply where you are. You can be in compliance in one place and drive a short distance and find yourself not in compliance. Things are settling down a bit now, but I would still want proper advice. The ADRK will have all the information that you need.

The tests would be specific to the state, and not, it probably won't be like an ATTS test.

Re: Temperment testing in Germany

Don't panic, Lanna
The tester person comes to your home and if your dog does not bite him at this moment you don't have any problems. If your dog is just a bit dangerous you will get a "Leinenzwang", which means, you have to leash him ALL THE TIME. But in this case he is leashed already all the time. Thats all.

I have NEVER heard that a dog got "Maulkorbpflicht", so you can look without sorrows in a bright rosa future ...

BUT: if he is totally normal it can happen to you, that he gets "Leinenzwang" too (some tester are challenging for this). In this case just say to the test that you don't want this passus in your expertise for only juristical reasons (e.g. you are playing with your dog on a lonely forest green) and after a short discussion he will forget about this. YOU pay this tester and YOU can say him what to write in YOUR expertise. Don't hesitate to mention a friendly attorney...
