Adult Dogs Sleep

I know that puppies sleep a lot during the day and are up at night every 2-3 hours. So, how are adult rotties with sleep? Do they sleep a lot during the day? Our house is empty for about 9 hours during the day 3 days a week. Will an adult dog sleep most of this time? Then will he be able to sleep ok through the night? (we plan on giving him proper excersise when we get home on those days.) How old are they before they start to sleep through the night? ;)

I think alot of it depends on your puppy. I have a little 7 week old girl right now and she sleeps from about 11:00 p.m. until 6-7:00 a.m.
I know, I am blessed :p
However I have her on a routine and feed her supper about 6:00 p.m. then she gets one snack after that. I also limit the amount of water she gets after 8:00 p.m., and she gets one drink, if she wants it, before she goes to bed.
I also take her out right before bedtime and make sure she has time to do her business before going to bed for the night.
My adult Rottweiler naps frequently during the day, but she also sleeps through the night (other than to get up and do her "rounds" around the house, which I am not sure how often she does this).

My Rottweiler usually sleeps through the night x-cept for rounds as well :) During the day he naps frequently in whichever spot is closest to me. On days when I must leave him home for a few hours he just sleeps on the couch & watches T.V. (I leave it on Animal Planet for him ) At least thats usually where he is when I leave him & when I get home, what a couch potato! :D

my male sleeps the bulk of the day.. as we both work..

on the weekends he gets grumpy and whiney when we are home all day, because he gets no naps.... LOL... it is actually kind of funny...

Mine sleeps a lot - about 12 hours at night and then back to bed after the morning activity (about an hour), when we go to work, for another 4-5 hours. (I know this because I am home some days and she always goes back to bed.)

This is a great question and becoming very helpful as you all answer, as we adopted a female rottie, who had been recouperating, so it was hard to tell the first couple of weeks how much she might sleep normally, as she was restricted to nothing but rest in the beginning. Right now, she sleeps through the night, and does also seem to get grumpy on the weekends when I get up early with her and we are active all day...she does love to lay on the couch and nap, and I didn't give her any chance on either day this weekend...we were on the go all day both days.. very interesting! :)

yesterday was a prime example...

I left the house at 10:00 w/ my dog... we were attending a PSA competition, he worked for about 30 minutes... and we got home around 6:30...

but at home we were doing some renovation work, so we were moving around all day, and he is my shadow ;) ....by 10:00 PM he was pathetic looking...dragging around, with bloodshot eyes...LOL

oh well... he gets all day today to recover..... lucky him!! :D

meanwhile I am just another veteran at work on this Veteran's Day!!
