dog that eats feces yuk! Hi does anyone know why dogs eat their own feces? I have a 8 week old puppy who has begun this disgusting habbit. My husband said most of all the dogs he has known has done this. But to my own experience this is a first for me. Are they lacking something nutritionally? Is it a curiosity thing? and how can I break her of this habbit before it becomes permenant. thanks Joslyn

I'm sure others will go into more details about the "WHYS" on this subject, so I won't. But having had this problem with past puppies and even some older dogs, I will say that most products on the market haven't worked for me, with "FOR-BID" being the exception. Besides picking up the feces ASAP, I use Prozyme. Prozyme is an all natural enzyme food supplement in powdered form. You sprinkle over food , add a little water, and feed. I haven't had a stool eater since using this. I even used it on my last litter of doxie babies when I started them on food, and I was pleasantly surprized that none of them were interested in feces. ksyankfan

Joslyn: Since your puppy is so young, it's likely a case of everything--& I mean everything--going into puppy's mouth because of curiosity. You don't want this experimentation to lead to a habit so be scrupulous in cleaning your yard up after your puppy. I wouldn't yell at or otherwise scold your puppy since the puppy has no idea what he or she is doing is something humans find awful. It's much better for you to keep a spotless yard and to redirect your puppy whenever you see puppy about to do something you don't like.
