Best vacuum for dogs?

Strange subject but... Our vacuum smells "doggy". It is a standard upright type with a paper bag inside a cloth bag. Even if I replace the paper bag and wash the cloth bag with soap and water it smells as I vacuum within a monthe or 2. We have been thinking about a different type of vacuum and were wondering what other "Rott" people used?........Thanks..........Tom and Joan

Eureka Ultra Whirlwind. It is bagless and it sucks up everything. I did allot of research on upright bagless vacuums. Eureka is normally not a good vacuum, but this particular model is supposed to be the best upright american you can buy. It is maroon in color and I bought it at Sams. I kow Sams sells them, but might be hard to find elsewhere. They had to pull them off the shelves due to a patent they were not supposed to use. But Sams still has them. It also has a switch to shut off the brush for hardwood and kitchen floors. It cost 199.00

Here is a vacuum cleaner forum that I found before I bought mine. The guy that runs it designs vacuum cleaners and he was the one that suggested this one to me.

I also have a bagless,it's a Fantom, kind of heavy, but I really don't think much more than others....It did solve the problem of doggy smell sweepers,as my other one got that way,but every time I emptyied it I could have made a new dog, stuffed full of hair and dander!!!!!I even sprinkled the floor with soda or a smelly kind of stuff from the market, carpet clean or something like that, but never really helped.....gotta save money now,for a bagless vacuum:) it's always something, huh ....

We have the Hoover Wind Tunnel and it's awesome! It's the bagless system so you just empty the canister each time you use it. It's a little scary what that thing will get out of your carpet. I always thought our house was pretty clean until I swept with that the first time

A nice person gave me their old rainbow vacuum. What a hoot. It all falls into a basin of water and when you're done- it's a pretty scary sight. Kinda fun, though~ if you could say that about vacuuming.

Remedy for your upright vacuum smell:

There is a deodorizing powder available that you sprinkle on the carpets before vacuuming - it has a secondary effect of taking the smell out of the vacuum bag. If you don't want to put it on the carpets, just sprinkle some right into the paper vacuum bag. Scented bath powder works too, just put some right in the bag.

The deodorizing powder is made by Arm & hammer (can't remember the name) and is sold in the supermarket in the section where you find cleaning supplies and room deodorizers.

Rainbow

I use a Rainbow vacuum. I'm allergic to pet hair & Dandruff, we live in a small place and I have a cat in addition to my Rott. After getting the Rainbow no more problem!! People come to my house and they don't think I have pets. (I use it to vacuum the bare floors to)

I love my Eureka canister. If you go to a store that specializes in vacuums, they have scented crystals that you can put right in the bag, all kinds of scents available. I love sea breeze or vanilla

I agree with Michael C. I also have a Eureka Whirlwind and am completely satisfied with it. It even has a dirt indicator light that tells you when the area is clean!. Believe me I have put number of sweepers to their death every year and this is the only one that has lasted. No smell to it, has a hepa filter and is wonderful! :)

Tom & Joan,
I don't have a problem with the doggy smell in my vacuum and I do have a vacuum that uses bags....here's a suggestion until you choose a new vacuum. Buy a bag of potpourri beads(beads work the best), you can find them at target, walmart etc..(cheap)! Throw the beads in your vacuum bag, half of the beads or the hole shot whatever you want. It keeps the vacuum smelling good when you're not using it and it makes the house smell wonderful when you are using it.:D When it's time to throw out the vacuum bag throw in a new scent of beads.

The bags are a pain because you go through a lot of them when it's sheading season. I have been lthinking about buying a bagless vac myself.

I use the potpourri seeds in my vacuum bag, too. It's amazing what $2 can do.
