| Re: ageing my ty There's not a lot of hard science in "guestimating" an adult dog's age. Looking at your boy's picture, he looks like he's already bulked out which frequently doesn't happen till 3 so I would guess 3 or over. Look at the teeth, that's another indicator. Pearly whites would indicate a dog who's probably under 2...a bit of discoloring might indicate a somewhat older dog. Once you see the teeth starting to wear, then I'd suspect 5 or older...but again, these are guesses. He's quite handsome and looks like a charmer. Thanks for rescuing him. Hopefully someone else can offer more. |

| Re: ageing my ty I can't see your images, but good advice from post 2. My rescue girl is old. Got her from a high kill shelter 5.5 years ago and she was estimated to be 8-10 at that time. Her teeth were very worn down and horrible looking and she was 40+ lbs underweight. Could count every rib from 10 feet away. So now she should be 13-15? Maybe but hard to believe. She runs like deer. Teeth still worn down but clean. Tall girl, weighs about 110 and no fat. White muzzle. Kills every feral cat that wonders over the fence. Vet told me last time she was in-"Don't want to worry you, but she is getting very old". Doesn't act it though. So who knows, hard to tell sometimes! |
