Your advice needed on adoption . . .

I'm wanting to get Cain another Rottie so he can have someone his size to play with, and need to know what age/sex you think would be best. Here is my situation:

Cain = Rottie, 3 years old, neutered male, brilliant
Boscoe = Boston Terrier, 12 years old, neutered male, stupid
Annie = White Cat, 13 years old, spayed female, deaf

Any ideas?

Ask CAIN what he wants!! Seriously...if you find a dog you like, introduce him/her (it) to Cain...if they get along, I'd sayyou've got a match! It's all up to the current animals (and you of course) who they'll accept into their 'pack'.

Good luck!!

No, I wouldn't get a puppy . . . I was wondering about about a dog a little older. Should it be a 5 month old, a 9 month old, a 13 month old, I would want a rescue at best, but how to handle the seniors in the household. Annie can hold her own, she does with Cain . . . he's 140 lbs, and she's only 20, but the Boston is a paranoid. He's a big guy, and Cain is even tolerant of him and lets him be the one to get the treats first, what's the best way to get Cain a buddy? He bumps both Boscoe and Annie with his nose, very gentle, but I just don't think it's enough for him. Or, do you think it IS enough?

Guberdog,
If you are going to adopt from a real rescue... the dogs will all be screened by the foster family.
On your application you can put in what dogs and other pets you have so that they can match you up better.
You need a rescue that is good with small dogs and cats and I think a female would probably fit in with "the boys" better.
As far as age... I don't think it will matter too much. Rotts love to play with rotts... they have their own special way of playing with each other.
My guys start "Wrestle Mania" every morning in the living room and I have to send them out to play.

:D

I agree with RottiMommy - let your dogs meet the prospective new adoptees.
