Re: Is your rott filling your house with hair ?

My son's dobie doesn't have an undercoat either, but she does shed... if not as much as my rottie. LOL

our breed sheds its coat twice a year for six months at a time....

i think the swifter broom is the best to collect all the hair.

Re: Is your rott filling your house with hair ?

Rotts shed like it's a job. We have a Dyson and pick up a puppy or two regularly. I brush Jake every other day. I do know someone who shaved her Rottie with horse shears.
The amount of hair I get out of him amazes me all the time. He should be bald. But for whatever reason it just keeps coming. I do have him groomed and they will pull out a lot of the undercoat and for about a week we're okay and then it starts up again. I'm always telling him I'm going to shave your a$$ bald. In a nice tone of voice and he looks at me like you can do anything you want to me. BTW, our Jake loves and I mean loves getting brushed.

Re: Is your rott filling your house with hair ?

MIA - from someone who lives in the same city - I have had to sweep EVERY single day for the last 2½ months. I tolerate hair/dust/dirt VERY well but he sheds so much that I have to clean everyday. I get a dustpan full each time, and I live in a tiny apartment! I don't brush him as much as I should, mainly because my duplex neighbour complains about the amount of hair that goes on her yard when I brush him outside.

Honestly, I'm glad you're mentioning the excessive shedding - Blade is at the worst he's ever been and I was kind of concerned something could be wrong with him.

People at uni think I own several cats because of all the hair on my clothes, in my bag, in my books

I like that. Your dog sheds twice a year for 6 months at a time. That's my Jake.
Sheds like it's a job and a very important. I use the swifter and then the Dyson.

He's just a pretty boy. I would never shave him. But there are days when it drives me nuts.

Re: Is your rott filling your house with hair ?

I actually vacuum my rott after I vacuum the house. Get it at the source, and it has helped a lot.

Probably so much quicker than using that d*rn FURminator! If only Blade wasn't afraid of the vacuum cleaner, lol

Re: Is your rott filling your house with hair ?

Nope, not filling, FILLED! It doesn't stop. No matter how much I brush them, no matter how often I vacuum, there is hair everywhere! I have learned to live with it. I just wonder how come they are not bald.

Pff, I'm thinking of opening a crafts store with rotthair carpets ;D. I've heard somewhere that the more you brush the more they shed? Still not shure about that ( after 3 generations of Rotties)

Re: Is your rott filling your house with hair ?

It's actually not too bad right now. I've been using a shedding blade about three times a week on each of them. It IS the season, though.

Um, "the more you brush the more they shed" theory was probably from someone L-A-Z-Y... and blessed with a wives tale imagination.

My official 2009 shedding report: June, and July were very productive shedding months for Delilah-Rott. Bless her Rotty heart.

'Tis the season! I'm painting the baseboards/mouldings in my dining room right now and no matter how well I clean the floor before I start, I'm still picking Chili and Bamboo fur out of the wet paint! God love 'em, it sure beats not having any fur around at all!!

Re: Is your rott filling your house with hair ?

I use the undercoat blade thing first before brushing. At times I get this grayish color stuff coming out like you would not believe. Especially under his neck. He lays there and lets me use the undercoat blade and then the brush. I get a litter of pups every other day. But I would not change it for the world. He's such a great dog. My son has him out hiking right now. Jake loves going on hikes. Gets to drink out of the stream and snif to his hearts content. Jake does not chase deer or other critters. We have deer around the house all the time and he looks at them but never chases them. We have run straight into a cyote (sp?) on the trail once and Jake was off leash. He just looked at it and walked away. The cyote ran in the other direction.
